I keep hearing/reading about how far Liverpool are 'behind' the teams above them, and how far we are behind 4th place.

The fact is, we're not that far behind.

Against the top 5 teams (Spurs still to play) we've taken 14 points from a possible 27.

Against the bottom 5 teams, we've taken 11 points out of a possible 30.

We should be taking at least 20 points from that kind of opposition.

Anyway, the point is, we've shown we can beat the best in the league when we want to, so we don't need an 'overhaul' at all. We just need to treat every game and every team the same.

Firstly,we're not all that far behind 4th as some would like to believe. We're also a better side than some would also make us believe. We've had our worst season in a decade, and how many points are Spurs ahead of us.5.Now this is a team that in the last two years that has blown us away spending wise.I gaurantee that when we get parity when it comes to spending,we'll blow them away.We haven't spent since 2008.Well not really as we've got a negative net spend since 2009.£41 million to be precise.
We don't need an ''overhaul'' as such.A few tweaks maybe. However Kenny signs for positions. He knows what we need, and the owners will allow him to sign what he needs. This is the reason why I'm more confident than I was this time last year. This time last year,I was expecting not much more than the previous campaign.I believe we've hit the bottom, and you know what happens when you hit the bottom.....The only way is up,and when you are down, you are at your most dangerous.
Secondly,Are Man City as far ahead of us as some would think? Not necessarily,as we obliterated them with a weakened side,no Gerrard,no Johnson,no Kelly,No Agger.
Some of the results we've had against City,United and Chelsea, weren't flattering. They should have been more. The win against Chelsea at SB was more comfortable than the actual result. We also at Anfield took United and City apart. Both were done with such ruthless efficiency that I haven't seen since 2009.The ruthlessness is coming back. However we do need certain players to improve our away form,One being a deep lying play-maker.We're okay at home because don't necessarily need one,we only need our two central midfielders to sit in front of the back four and this allows the forward creative players to do what they do.In the away games we need someone to slow things down.We also need an outlet ie wingers. We have to stop ourselves from getting over-run which seems to happen moreso in away games.
The additiion of the youngsters has been encouraging,They seem composed and look like they've been playing in the first team for longer than they have. Now if Jack Robinson can handle Walcott and nullify him, whats he got to fear from other players.Nothing.Same applies to John Flanagan. He put James Milner in his pocket.
The unity and togetherness is key for me.Its unbelievable.I however agree that we need to treat every side the same and apply the same pressure on the lesser sides that we put on the better ones.

Yeah this has always been one of the things that most annoyed me this season. There are not many players in either of those teams that i would actually will us to sign. They both have better squads, but i think where we have fallen down is not having players like Lennon or A Johnson who punish the 'smaller' teams. That's not to say they are not good teams, just that i think there's probably 2 players from each team that the others would want. Spurs and City would take Carroll and Suarez off us (City might swap one of those for Kuyt as i think he'd be a huge benefit to their team mentality), and we'd take Silva and Tevez and Bale and Modric.

Our squad has been highly underrated this year even if it isn't the greatest, but before the summer window we're still looking at Carroll, Suarez, Kuyt, Gerrard, Mereiles as attacking players for next year and i think most of those would get into any team in the league in some capacity. We have a top class keeper, a classy albeit fragile centreback in Agger, Glen Johnson (if he returns to form) is the best right back in the country in my opinion, plus our exciting batch of youngsters including Kelly who was immense and i think a future England international. Add to this a Brazilian international who is getting better week on week, Joe Cole who used to have great talent (who knows maybe he could re-find his form if we don't move him on), one of the most experienced and committed defenders in the league in Carragher and suddenly it sounds a lot better. If we then buy some genuine flair and a consistent left back that's nowhere near the 'midtable squad' people like to tell us we have. I don't think we'll win the league next year but surely that team, now it is actually realising its potential, plus summer investment (which i think is especially important for us as our squad is more unbalanced than Tottenham and City's- which i think has a knock on effect) can challenge for 4th place minimum? Even if we don't get it i would expect us to be in the mix.

    Silva?
We have that type of player already in Dani Pacheco.A player thats neither a winger or a midfielder.
Tevez? We have Suarez, same type of player.Bags of energy, buzzes about. Not the biggest but incredibly strong.
    Modric definitely.
    Bale,One the left flank definitely.
    Adam Johnson as an alternative.
I'm not expecting Liverpool to win the league next year, because I believe its going to take at least 3 transfer windows to get back to at least our 2009 level. It could take one more after that to go beyond our 2009 level. But 1 or 2 players to finish it off.
However if Raheem Sterling continues at the rate he's progressing at,We could save ourselves a fortune. He potentially could be English footballs next superstar.
