This story is on a few websites so may have some substance behind it.

Tottenham are back on the trail of Dinamo Zagreb playmaker Milan Badelj, 22, as a long-term replacement for Manchester United and Chelsea target Luka Modric.

Dinamo are demanding £8.5m. Badelj, 22, has already filled Modric's boots in Zagreb.

Spurs may have to make a decision quickly as Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow are ready to open the bidding. There is also interest from Italy, while Manchester United and Zenit St Petersburg have previously tracked him.

We should buy him. We've had alot of good fortune with Croatians, Modric, Krancjar and Corluka. Why not have Modric's replacement. Even if we keep Modric, this guy could be very useful for us

Well the obvious point is that Modric isn't leaving

What he says always trumps biased moronic journalists

That's be nice. He's the key man in our midfield going forwards. He pulls strings, that others we have aren't capable of doing

    Is he any good, CH?

Our Croatian contingent have done us proud so far, so another promising player in a similar vein couldn't hurt, I guess.
Get rid of the deadwood that we have in the midfield and bring in someone with potential.
Could be used in the Europa League and domestic cups, til he's ready.

I hope Daniel Levy keeps to his word regarding the club not being interested in selling its best players. How many times have spurs been on the verge of someting special only for a berbatov type of player to leave. We are so close to being a top top side if we can get that elusive striker a keeper and maybe a centre back.
Fingers crossed, come on Daniel keep your nerve.

£8m may not be chickenfeed, but it's at least £6m less than we're expected to pay for Mirko Marin.

Marin looks very, very good, from what I've seen of him.
£14m would probably be a decent deal for him, but I think he'd expect to start and we've got a lot of competition for the roles that he can play.
Maybe he could fill the inevitable Kranjcar-sized hole in the squad and we'll actually pick him a couple of times to keep him happy?

Our midfield is a tricky thing to balance this summer.

We are never going to be a regular top 4 side if we let any of our current crop of top players go. It's as simple as that.

We need to buy even more stars, not sell the ones we've already manage to scout, buy and establish in the squad.

Marin is another small player with great skill, where he differs to Luka is that he actually has a great shot on him & can score goals! Would be a very good buy, don't know enough about Milan Badelj to comment, but the Croatians do breed skillful players!

I 've put this on another thread, Greavsie. The worst thing about willingly selling Modric to a Prem rival would be the message that that would send to the other players. What are they going to think about the club's ambitions if we do that?

When did Liverpool ever sell a player they wanted?

Didn't MacManaman & Owen leave Liverpool when they wanted them to stay?

I think I'd be right in saying Rush, Keegan and possibly Dalglish, too.

Basically they kept players when they had loads of money and couldn't keep them when players had better offers, except for Gerrard and we all know what happened there.
