Despite his best attempts to upset the Geordies it seems everything has backfired. I wonder if to really upset them he intends to loan Glasgow Rangers all the mags best players Cisse et al. It's not as far fetched as you might think.

OK Then it is. However, he hasn't upset them for a while.

I'm waiting for him to say 'Well, Rangers is my main concern now and if the players do well at Newcastle I will promote them to the Rangers squad as the wages are not that high in the Scottish 3rd division and therefore it makes sound business sense to do this'.

He wasn't trying to upset them, with hindsight, indeed, he had a plan, stuck to it, rode it out, and he proved he was right all alon

He may be many things, but he is a brilliant businessman, to make a billion you have to be.

Would he sell for £100million now?? Would he ****.

Begrudgingly this...although I still get a sinking feeling everytime I see an article with 'Newcastle Owner' or 'Mike Ashley' in the title...

What you make of this Rangers thing mate, looks like he sees an opportunity to me, those shares will appreciate in value all the way back to the SPL, they'll be back competing for titles in 5 years, and debt free.

They may have cheated the system to do it, but that's how it's gonna be.

I don't think it will have any bearing on Newcastle which is all I'm bothered about. Ashley is going to make money from it which is why he is looking at investing. Fair play to him. His finger is in the pulse when it comes to making money.

Quick question for the barcodes and our lads who know of such things,
If Rangers get into Europe this year via The Scottish Cup/League Cup (not sure what they are called) and the barcodes get into Europe again via whatever means and Ashley does have money in Rangers as it looks likely, does he have to sell one or the other shares as a conflict of interest within EUFA?

I think that only applies if he has a controlling interest mate, not 100% on this mind.

He is still more than capable of upsetting the applecart. He is basically from the school of creative tension in business. i.e. a bit of adversity makes everyone push that bit harder. Rangers look like they'll represent an excellent feeder club of sorts (not meant in a derogatory way) for out of favour reserves and young players. You know sending them up there they'll get first class facilities and be well looked after with good coaches.

I think it would be wrong to suggest he had the same plan all along. He has had to do some learning about the business of football, and we're on about version 6 of his grand plan!! I don't think I'll ever like the bloke but you have to give him his dues in terms of bouncing back from his mistakes to get us to where we are now. He has had some luck undoubtedly, but he's also made some bloody good decisions.

Not sure what there a case of potential conflict over Peter Reid when he took over Leeds because he had shares in you guys? That would suggest to me this could be a problem for Ashley if that situation did arise.
