what could this mean for the ownership of our club? Is a football club owner even allowed to have a stake in another football club? Imagine rangers were in europe and we got drawn against them, what would happen then? my head hurts!

Think they are allowed as long as they aren't under the same Association (IE FA and SFA). We're not likely to run into Gers in Europe any time soon <laugh>

From what I hear, this is mostly about him being allowed to sell Rangers stuff in his shops. Doubt he will invest large amounts with only a 10% stake and won't be involved much in running club.

i suppose that sounds about reasonable. The last thing i would want though is for Newcastle to use Rangers as a feeder club!!

How are Rangers going to be profitable in the abyss? That's banking on a couple of promotions and the old fan-base sticking with them...

Other than that, I'm not sure it is a conflict of interest. He'd be an investor, not an owner. That means Rangers could at most essentially become an affiliate (most likely it's just a plain and simple financial investment), and if they get European Football and we also have it (which isn't the most likely of scenarios at present), he's not really providing any conflicting input in Rangers...

OR he could sell us to a Sheik, we win everything for a couple of seasons before financially imploding, while he buys Rangers and takes Carr with him <wah>

Not sure how it works with Rangers being a Newco or whatever the **** it is, but would he take on a debt? If they're starting from scratch they'll soon rise through the divisions back to the SPL and then his stake will be worth a lot more than it is now.

I don't think we'd be allowed to face Rangers in Europe. A few years ago CSKA (sponsored by one of Abramovic's companies) drew Chelsea in the Champions League and I think Abramovic had to prove he had no influence at CSKA for the two to be able to compete, otherwise one would've been expelled.

Rangers aren't going to be in Europe any time soon though, Ashley probably would've sold his stake by then. If he did still hold a stake in Rangers they'd no doubt be the club he had kicked out. I could see him holding that over the rest of the board at Rangers to drive up the price of his stake in the club.

Its simply clever business...As a Newco they are worth very little but they have immense potential. It would be different with a different team, but either of Rangers or Celtic have a fanbase that doesn't follow solely for the football and having spoken to a Celtic fan who said, "we'll see if they're as good a set of supporters as they claim to be now" - I think they'll feel they've got something to prove!

MA would have done his homework, seen how much advertising he'd get, how many tops etc he'd sell, and come out smelling of roses with his pockets bulging.
