Word is that we will be heavily scrutinised in terms of income streams and sponsorship deals to ensure they are at market rate. Ashley will help without realising it as he’s been massively under paying for sponsorship for years. City will help as their historical shenanigans mean that ‘market rate’ will be massively higher than in other leagues. I believe the academy is exempt fro ffp too so expect to see a lot of young stars arrive soon...
FFP may be suspended this summer too. If this weren't all nonsense the timing of that would be perfect.
FFP will definitely be reviewed but as you indicate it does not matter. Even commercial deals with these gigantic businesses involved in pif are going to add 300m of revenue minimum over 3 years. Add to that the fact that we have been profitable (we can thank ashley for that) and the new kit deals etc. We could be looking at a net spend of around £100m a year which is progress in itself. Any spends on the ground and academy are not impacted on the calculations as they are balance sheet entries. So they can pump in 100-200m for that so it all adds massive value to the balance sheet.
Am I the only one who’s quite happy for us to abide by FFP? Personally I’d much rather see steady investment reverse the massive cost cutting under MA. To watch my team progress steadily up the league - strengthening where needed - and some exciting cup runs, would be more satisfying than the artificial success bought by Chelski and ManCity in recent years.
I mean, ****, just to be able to look up the table rather than down next season would completely change the experience of following NUFC that we’ve had for 13 years.
you must have time on your side don't know if I can wait another 13years to put right the wrongs of Ashley
I think the big man upstairs will add a canny few years on for all your trudging up and down to SJP to supply up to date news on the takeover....
I meant the last 13 years! **** waiting another 13! Just not expecting to win the league next season, that’s all.
You're not the only one. If it does go through (not 100% convinced yet) then I'd be happier to see us abide by the rules. It will be far more satisfying just to see us gradually strengthen and improve rather than buy our way to any silverware. Gradual improvement will just put us on more of a level playing field with those who already spend rather than trying to take things to a whole new level. Apart from the fact we would be more emotionally involved with the team that way, the alternative is like playing a game and only winning by entering cheat codes. I never understand how anyone can ever take any pleasure or sense of achievement in doing that.
This. Anyone who wouldn’t love seeing us spend a **** load of money to smash everyone is kidding themselves. It would be a ****ing dream man, no one touching Newcastle United!
Mate, last time I played a video game was about 10 years ago Telling me you wouldn’t love us spending 500m in one summer? How could a Newcastle fan not enjoy that. I’d be ****ing myself silly at just the thought.
I’m really not sure I would mate. If I wanted to watch overpaid mercenaries I have no connection to hold up a title someone else has bought, then I could have sat in the other end while we got tonked 6-0 off Man City away. Flip the question: what would you prefer? Watch a team of new players in black and white shirts, whose only reason for playing for Newcastle is that their monthly wages are three times what I’ll earn in a lifetime rather than merely twice, lift the title next season? Or see a team of academy lads and players who want to play for the Toon lift the FA cup in three years time? A team of Michael Owens or a team of Alan Shearers? Both are pipe dreams, but I know what I’d rather see as a fan.
I would personally rather see a team of academy lads, ofcourse I would. But I just feel we’ll never win a trophy if we rely on mainly that. I’d love to see us win some trophies in the near future not have to wait 20 odd years or so. Football these days has became about money, the only real way to compete regularly (not just the odd season like Leicester have done) if you chuck cash at it. The reason why I’d be chuffed if we spent a load of money is cause I want Newcastle’s name in the headlights again. I want us recognised, noticed. Like I say, ofcourse I’d prefer us to win something with players who love the club but I’m a realist and I realistically want to see us actually win a trophy, not get to a QF, SF or a final, actually win it. & unfortunately I feel money is (unless we did a Wigan and got lucky) the only option.
**** any moral obligations. We’ve suffered this **** for years. I hope they are extravagant in all aspects a la Man City. I hope they bend the rules to enable lavish spending on transfers to enable us to compete. I hope we have spanking new state of the art facilities. I hope the City as a whole benefits. You either join the gravy train or you might as well go support a local football club because this is the PL. All the top clubs are dirty. Join them or accept mediocre survival football.
