Sunderland boss O'Neill: Mignolet not going to Arsenal Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Mon, 12/24/2012 - 11:08 Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill insists goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is not moving to Arsenal. OâNeill said Mignolet is going nowhere â and reasserted his desire to add âqualityâ to his squad in the January transfer window. âWe wouldnât want to lose any of our key players next month,â he said. âI havenât heard of any specific interest, but I certainly wouldnât want to lose Mignolet or any of the other players who have been so important to us so far this season. âHeâs been outstanding for us so far, so heâs definitely not someone we would want to see leave. âI havenât heard of that (the Arsenal link), but Iâm not in any position to let our good players go in January. I think weâve really got to be looking to try to improve our squad next month."
Again making all the right noises mate but, actions speak louder than words so get him on a better and longer contract.
I do have a concern here, there was talk several weeks back of an imminent contract offer. The lad hasn't signed it, has he declined, is it in progress? The lad needs a proper contract, I heard he's on around 8k a week, he needs to go closer to 30k, and long-term. He will leave, with my blessing, for a massive, massive club (linked so far United, Arsenal & AC Milan, can we grumble if he heads to one of those?), but what we do want is to hang onto the lad for as long as we possibly can. Been the best in the league this season, and still constantly, constantly improving, even his handling and distribution, which admittedly are still needing improvement, are getting better. Lad's a diamond, one of the best buys we have found in many a long year, akin to Tommy when we got him.
