shrews beat mighty leicester 2-0. lemons are dead, our marv and el tel. well done shrews. anybody go? match report?
Very good performance but always difficult to gauge from a friendly. Leicester started with 8 of what BBC Leicester maintain will be the starting XI when the season kicks off. Anyon looked more assured than Wheale in goal. The defence Grandison, Hector,Jones and Purdie coped well with the speedy Dyer and Nugent. Hall and Richards impressed in midfield although Wright and Taylor didn't have much effect. Gornell's goal was classy but Doble, who started with him, did little. Many changes in the second half. Morgan always troubled their Morgan with his pace and scored another with his head. As the game wore on Shrewsbury looked more and more comfortable and Parry went close with a free kick. EARLY DAYS, THOUGH.
many thanks, and agree early days but, there is promise there. i have warmed the leicester boards and suggested to leeds they could come a cropper on the 11/8. do we need another striker?
I am very much in agreement with you Kasule. I thought Hall in particular was really impressive and dominant in breaking up their play and threatening on the edge of their box. Richards was class as usual. Taylor and Wright worked hard to keep the shape of the team but were not able to beat the full-backs to get in crosses. Gornell looked sharp and took his goal well but Doble looks more like one for the future at the moment. Jones looked like exactly what he is - a big, no-nonsense centre half but he was quietly impressive. Hector for me was the star of the defence with good positioning and pace and good distribution - he could certainly do a job there if called upon to start the new season. Purdie was steady though I think Jacobsen is a more natural left back. Wildig is an interesting player and I was impressed by his passing and intelligent runs when he came on. Summerfield also showed some good long passing. Overall it was a good performnace with almost all the new additions aquitting themselves well. The big question mark is still I think upfront where we may be a stiker short and we need to bring in some real quality if we are to replace Collins. No doubt GT is working on that but I see no reason why we should not hold down a mid-table place in league 1 this year.
I agree with above posts played really well yesturday with Hector & Hall the stand out players but Parry & Purdie looking good as well.Really pleased to see Terrry & Marvin score showing they are more than capable and silence some doubters. Worried a little about Tom Bradshaw seems to have lost his way a little & maybe a loan spell is the answer. Would like to see another experienced striker come in before Leeds with Doble as backup if needed. Keepers, I have been to all 3 friendlies so far & prefer Anyon to Weale at the moment but it's early days, seems to be more vocal,& comes off his line more. so far overall I am quite optimistic.
Sounds like it was a good game, have had a week in the Dales and took a detour via Wigglesworth in Lancashire to see our nemesis ref's village.
