Bruce is looking to strengthen the striker options during the summer, but while he is looking for top forwards maybe he should be casting his net over the exclusive bunch that is known as scoring midfielders. It seems to have been a strange season where several midfielders are up in the scorers charts. Although n'zog has been mentioned many times (i'll leave it at that) there seems to be an abundance of scoring midfielders around, and they are a vital part to any team, something we are sorely lacking. here is the list and look for the midfielders Berbatov Man Utd 21 Tevez Man City 19 Van Persie Arsenal 16 Bent Aston Villa 15 Odemwingie West Brom 15 Carroll Liverpool 13 Hernandez Man Utd 13 Kuyt Liverpool 13 Malouda Chelsea 13 Dempsey Fulham 12 Nolan Newcastle 12 Van der Vaart Tottenham 12 Campbell Blackpool 11 Drogba Chelsea 11 Adam Blackpool 10 Our midfield has scored a combined 6 or 10 depending on what you class ricco as. Anyone any suggestions on who would help solve this problem, apart from insomnia..
Craig Gardner has scored 10 goals this season for Brum, 8 in the league and 2 in league cup. Bit of an underated player but has an eye for goal but not the marquee name fans crave for
How about a goalscoring defender? Huth always seems to get 6 or 7 a season. My shout was Craig Gardiner, he's in double figures this year. I have never really watched him, know nothing about his gamr but that stat alone suggest he's got an eye for goal. The few goals of his that stick in my mind were quality strikes from just outside the box (cattermoles kryptonite) A stat that puts it all in perspective is one I read in a paper the day after the brum game. When Gardiner scored their second his total for the season came up on the scoreboard and it was more than our whole midfield combined had managed in 2 seasons.
well that just high-lites our problem in midfield full stop. here's a different option, as we are apparently after a new left back, would the idea of bardo going into a catts like role work? attacking midfielders, and bardo in the holding role, but on occasion, get forward and let some of his rocket shots go? only a thought..
The bardo in midfield role did actually spring to mind when I was typing that post. Could be an ace up the sleeve in away games.
