Bristol City set to rival Belgian giants in hunt to snap up 24-year-old midfielder Belgian news outlet DH are reporting that Bristol City will provide Standard Liege with competition as the two clubs vie for the signing of Panathinaikos midfielder Robin Lod. Bristol City are desperate to maintain their momentum towards the summit of the second tier and push for promotion to the Premier League. In order to do so, Lee Johnson is likely to try his hand in the January transfer window and gamble with two or three new additions at Ashton Gate. Robin Lod has been identified as a possible new incoming arrival. The 20-cap Finland international, who has three goals for his country, plays predominantly as a central midfielder and Johnson will hope that he can provide competition for places in the centre of the park. The 24-year-old has rejected a new deal at Panathinaikos, meaning that the Greek giants could be forced to sell him for a cut-price fee this January. While Standard Liege are believed to be in the hot seat to land Robin Lod, Bristol City are also monitoring his situation and could look to beat the Belgian side to his signing. The Verdict Bristol City need one or two new additions in January to ensure they have enough squad depth to maintain their promotion push. They find themselves fourth in the league and they have a terrific chance of gaining promotion this term. Robin Lod is young but accomplished and his arrival would certainly boost Lee Johnson’s options in midfield. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/b...ts-in-hunt-to-snap-up-24-year-old-midfielder/
I think we have some interesting times ahead prior to the transfer window because we are sitting quite comfortably in the league and yet injuries could come up and bite us in the backside unless we take some preventitive action. The product on the pitch is considerably better that the last few seasons and although I have never been a fan of the over priced window players perhaps this may be the right time to test the waters, but only if there is a particular target who has been well scouted and can add something positive to the mix. When I look back at the 5.8 million spent on Diedhiou it makes me wonder if that money could not have been better spent strengthening the team at one of the most important times of the season. Spending money wisely is the cornerstone of building a competitive team without breaking the bank for those possible rainy days and it will be interesting to see which road we take in a season where the impossible dream may come true.
In today's money, the amount spent on Diedhiou isn't that outrageous, & his contribution, as well as goal return before injury was good (admittedly, open to opinion). I think in time there's a very good chance that he'll prove to be a good buy & will be linked to moves at a higher price.
Preventative measures and thinking ahead ? Bristol City ? What in the world is the club coming to ? This almost smacks of having capable people in positions of power down in BS3.....
Can't say I've heard of him, but a young international for a nominal fee - sounds like he fits the brief of our largely successful transfer policy and could be a real coup. Not sure I like it being in the press nearly two months before the window opens though...
