After another unconvincing win against a Stoke team bereft of any idea how to drag themselves out of the slump they are in, Does the fact that we don't have a dominant, powerful midfielder able to drive us on in the mold of Robson, Ince, Keane worry you for next season, it's the one position that we lack, we should of destroyed Stoke today. Fellaini would be an ideal candidate for me, any ideas or is there other positions that bother you?

Assuming that Scholes is retiring, there's a midfield position up for grabs. Maybe even two if Anderson is shifted. I wouldn't mind seeing us invest some serious cash in the midfield next season as IMO we need someone who can give Carrick a break.

Just been reminded of Powell on the Young Part 2 thread, I hope he gets some game time next season.

You only had to watch yaya toure today to see how important a dominant midfielder can be

I think he's going to be more in mold of what we have now though, good passing and going forward. Decent positionally on defense, though not a powerhouse.

Who are the people that are potentially available that can fill that role? Nomak already mentioned Fellaini, there's Strootman from I believe PSV, anyone else? If we shift off a few people (Scholes retiring, Fletcher possibly retiring, Anderson possibly being sold) a cheap more squad filling option would be Juninho of the LA Galaxy, obviously my opinion of him is biased, but he's only 23-24 and plays that midfield enforcer role better than anyone in the MLS. He's built like Keane too, but he just bullies people around anyways. He's a decent passer of the ball and has one of the best long range shots I've ever seen. I think he could be a smart buy as a back up to a Fellaini/Strootman.

I've seen the lad play for galaxy a couple of times great engine. Strootman does indeed play for PSV and has said on a few occasions that he would love to join United, Fellaini could end up in a bidding war so all depends on the £££ we have. Scholes & Fletcher will go I think, Anderson,Nani should be sold, another option I can see is Wynyama from Celtic. Today in some paper (I forget) was a story about Cabaye from Newcastle but im unsure about him.

Haha, he is a good but not sure about from MLS to Premier League, but as Manobear says maybe a good squad player to get him started. Fellaini for me though

He's one of those players whose able to learn very quickly from better players around him. He's been in LA for 4 years now. (3 on loan from Saulo Paulo, this his first season after his permanent transfer to the Galaxy), he's drastically improved his game to play with the likes of Beckham, Robbie, Keane, and Landon Donavon. He may not be good enough for Man Utd, but he's definitely good enough to play in the premier league.

I'd love Fellaini at United, he's got so much raw power, and there's been a couple of games in the past few season where he's just bossed the midfield against Chelsea, City, and the likes. He has played farther up this season, but is that been Moyes call or was it something Fellaini wanted?

From what I can gather its been moyes decision, Since Tim Cahill left they missed that power running into the box, plus the form of Evertons midfield has allowed Fellaini to venture forward much more

I quite liked Axel Witsel but he joined some Russian club last summer and I don't know how he's doing there. Manobear's idea of Juninho sounds good too, we need someone consistent, a physical presence there. Fellaini, despite being a huge hit in the Premier League, I think has a dark side and the way he likes to hog the ball, will slow our game down, in my opinion. Dembele is a much better option.

I quite like Axel Witsel before he left for some Russian club, don't know how he's doing there.
Juninho, from Mano's description, should be a good addition. We need someone strong, experienced with a physical presence.
Fellaini, despite being a huge hit, am not a big fan of. He's quite dirty and the way he hogs the ball, will slow our game down. (He also rides Vauxhall Corsa. Disgraceful!)
    Dembele is a better option.

    PS: I'm not Belgain btw.

No clue why we didn't throw Fulham the day after we played them at Old Trafford. He completely dominated that game. Did the same with Spurs 2 weeks later! <laugh>
