This particular fixture is one of our "games in hand" and therefore the pressure is on Southampton to make sure we maximise and bring home 3 Points in order to climb the league and fight for promotion. Last season Southampton made the 100 odd mile trek to the Midlands club and grabbed 3 Points after a convincing 3-1 Victory on the 5th December 2009 under management of Alan Pardew , which saw Connolly , Hammond & Lambert all scoring at Bescot Stadium. please log in to view this image Darren Byfield scoring his 100th goal for Walsall and netting a consolation goal but not enough to cause Southampton trouble Should any Saints Fan want a recap of what happened last season here is a link from BBC Match Review & Interviews: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/8377213.stm Southampton starting XI (3rd December 2009): Bialkowski, Perry, Murty, Harding, Jaidi, Hammond, Schneiderlin, James, Lambert, Lallana Southampton most likely line up: Davis , Butterfield, Fonte , Jaidi, Harding , Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chaplow, Hammond, Lallana, Guly / Barnard , Lambert Look at this season's squad compared to last season there are huge improvements in every position: therefore this should be a convincing victory for Nigel Adkins This fixture was original intended to be played 18th December but was postponed like many other fixture across League 1 at the time due to frozen conditions. Full Time Prediction for the F/T Score? Starting XI?
These are the types of game that in the past have been our undoing. Yes we got a result last year it is true. To expect the same result would be asking for trouble. We have not been able to duplicate any of our away results so far this season. However if we are to call ourselves promotion contenders that is exactly what we have to do and more.
Morgan should be back and with him in the side I am sure we have enough skill to unlock the Walsall rearguard. Should be a fairly uncomplicated game with our superior class showing through. Even though we are talking about the Saints.
I agree With Spider in the team we do tend to be better balanced IMO......When is he back in training or is he in training already?
Spider will be needed against a team like Walsall I would give about 60 minutes on the field then change him with Hammond for this one. Then the following Saturday you could give him a full game and maybe give Chappers a rest.
Sounds good to me because all three like yellow cards and at least that way they know each others play.
3 points from this one and the pressure will really be on Huddersfield and Bournemouth. Fingers crossed that the right team turns up!
Swindon followed by Walsall should mean we have gained six points. Let's hope as you say we see our boys show up ready to mix it if necessary.
The word Should ......Should be in capitals and underlined..... when have we in recent times done what we should do? Trouble is we cannot drop too many points now especially at home. To be honest it will not be long if Nigel doesn't start to get these guys to believe in themselves and to win a couple or three on the trot. The doubters of his ability to get us up will raise their ugly head. To be fair he has now had time to get them playing "his way" Albeit it isn't completely his team. It is going to be an interesting run in.
Does anyone know what time the coach leaves for this? Theres nothing on the website and I've e-mailed the ticket office and haven't had a reply yet
Walsall I would have thought is about a 3/3.5 hour drive on a coach. So would have said around 2.30 to 3. Does it not say on you ticket received from Saints?
No it doesn't because its the ticket from the original game. That was supposed to leave at 10.30 (4 and a half hours before kick off) so i would guess around 3 aswell
My Starting XI: Davis Butterfield....Fonte....Jaidi....Harding Chamberlain....Hammond....Spider....Lallana Barnard....Lambert This will be a interesting game, Walsall are fighting to avoid relegation and Southamton looking for promotion! So both team will want want a win no matter what!
