I cannot believe how excited I am for the start of this new season! To have a squad of (nearly) 22 very good and capable players is fantastic. To think that ipswich can field 2 very good teams is brilliant! Mick has come out saying were one player short, I assume it has to be either a forward or centre mid. For me I would rather a ST as looking at our current crop of players, I can't see a lot of goals coming from them: Mcgoldrick - I think will be out top goal scorer, but can only see him getting 12-15 goals; Murphy - will probably only get 10; and Nouble - I can't see him getting many probably about 7, or 8. So a proven championship goal scorer (without off field problems) would really see us as contenders for this league. Also with the hard tackling, workman like CM Mick has to his disposable then I think we will look to play out wide. What do you guys think?
Cracking bloke is MickMac and his honesty and dedication is second to none. I really think he will work wonders for you lads and I will be rooting for you this season. Have a good one lads and come back soon, love my away days at Ipswich
Apparently we are close to signing a youngster on loan from Man U. I don't think we actually need anymore signings in terms of squad depth but I think we could do with 3 or 4 more quality players in there. I agree we need a penalty box striker and a CM playmaker, plus a pacey left winger (unless Carson or Doherty steps up) and a GK. Credit has to go to Mick though, although I always think he do better in terms of the quality he brings in, we appear to be one of the only clubs in the division to have done our business early and we don't have any holes in the team, plenty of options in each position.
You're so right about getting the players in early. It's something that was said by Jewell in the off season but he never really made it happen. I think Mick also said he wanted to get players in as soon as possible and he's delivered.
There's a rumour going around we are getting N'Daw back I think he did well and it was good to have a big physical presence on the pitch. On the right money I think it would be good to have him as an option. I would rather play Hyam but I still think he is learning and N'Daw is already the finished product. Would anyone else take N'Daw?
I wouldnt be against N'Daw coming back, but I cant really see the point, it would just oversubscribe us for Midfield. Hyam may still be learning but he's good enough to start and obviously has to play to develop further.
Exactly Mike, our young players won't progress if they don't start or feature off the bench regularly.
No N'Daw for me, he was decent at breaking up play but terrible at ball retention, perhaps he would've been a great addition as a DM in a 5 man midfield but definitely not a 4 man. You can't afford to have a CM who keeps giving the ball away when there's only 2 CM's!!
N'daw No...............Alan Lee i didn't rate him when he was here so i don't think he is good enough now but i'm sure its just a case of a little bit of emergency cover and not a starting role...
Alan lee. Really? N'daw I could manage. But agree with ptc never in a 4 man midfield. I saw him as a between back 4 and midfield player.
Alan Lee, never rated him, if we are going to include him in the squad then it should only be as a pay as you play bonus, he is getting a wage as part of the academy team leave it at that.
Lee was our last successful striker at this club and he was great for this club at a time when we were really struggling. I always felt he was worse in better teams though which I geuss is why we sold him in the first place, shame we never effectively replaced him. I see no problem in him signing a contract as a player if he is going to be a coach here, think it makes sense really, if we get a few injuries he could come in handy. Although that would mean we have 3 pretty average target men (Nouble, Lee and Murphy) and 2 strikers who prefer to play behind the main striker (Taylor and McGoldrick) think we could do with a penaltybox striker.
He's 34 years old for ****s sake... No way, no ****ing way at all, I thought that we were building for the future...
