Sooner it is all done and dusted the better, then we can move on.
The more I read of this, the more I respect Brian McDermott and Chris Hughton for standing by their clubs and ruling themselves out of the running at the earliest opportunity.
I just want it all sorted, I don't want Mick to go but also i think its about time he showed the club and the supporters a bit of respect. I don't want this everytime a job comes up him whoring himself about when asked about it, we need a committed manager to build the club again.

not being JWM, he has hardly been saying 'I'm a taken man' has he! Don't get me wrong, I want him to stay but i don't think we should have to put up with this everytime a job turns up. What next, when little chrissy gets the boot after losing to Cardiff, and he is asked the question, what will be his reaction?
When you appoint a high calibre and high profile manager like Mick this sort of thing comes with the Territory I'm afraid! We were lucky to get him last season and it is a sad fact of life that we are not the attractive option we once were. If Mick does decide to leave for a 'bigger' job then we should all accept it and appreciate the great job he did for us while manager. Reading between the lines I am not going to be at all surprised if he does leave by the end of this month but I will wish him all the best if he goes.
I can see where you are coming from JWM, And all of this isn't going dampen the huge job he has done for us and i would thank him for it. TBH, I am resigned to fact he is going, i can't see any other scenerio. But if he didn't go, I would want him to come out with a positive statement towards his loyalty to the club and the future.

This is all very well, but Skuse is saying the Mccarthy business is the talk of the dressing room, surely this is the last thing the players should be concerned about, from the beginning Mick should have said yay or nay, it has to be taking the players attention away from the important match at Bolton, and make no mistake, they will be monitoring the situation carefully, and interpretating any unrest, if we are not on our game, Bolton will win their first home league game of the season, of that, you can be sure
My only hope is that if Mick does leave, ME will not go down the sentimentality route and go for Mowbray & Venus! Nor the populist route by bringing in that clown Holloway! BUT we could all be here this time next week digesting the news conference where Mick says that he is here for the long term! I much prefer the latter as I'm sure most of us on here do!
Got to agree that the best scenerio would be for Mick to say he is staying and puts forward his loyalty to the club. thats never to say that somebody might come in for him, and then we play it by ear again, just some reassurance would be nice from him.
We all knew from the start that if the Ireland job came up then Mick would be interested so it comes as no surprise to me that he hasn't ruled himself out. He has been open about this topic from day one and I don't find it disrespectful at all. I don't think he would act like this over every empty managers position but he obviously wants another go at this one. The sooner the position is filled and we know where it leaves us the better.
I do agree SD... But my only concern is now that he has been dangled that carrot (so to speak) will his head be turned even if he doesn't get the job? What I mean is, he will have had time to consider leaving ITFC for (his dream job?) and if he doesn't get the Ireland job, he's head just simply isn't with us anymore.. it happens to a lot of us in our careers (once you start seeing/applying/getting interviews for other jobs it snowballs into what was an honest look around to full on looking to leave)
Well I think we can kiss goodbye to any chance of getting a result at Bolton. He does not put the interests of the club high enough. He could stay in the running for the job without conducting himself in this way and for these reasons I hope he goes now. If he doesn't take the job it will not be for commitment to his club or terms but simply because O'Neill got it so I think his future with Town is untenable. Since August he has not shown the drive of last season and it's pretty obvious why. For everyone's benefit it's best if he gets the Ireland job.

Well Warky I didn't want him but after a month or two he had won me over completely. This season though we've been lacking and his comments and press conferences have concerned me all season, particularly over the last few weeks. By all means look through my posts before the Ireland thing blew up over the last week or two: I couldn't put my finger on why his motivation wasn't where it should be but now it's crystal clear. If he stays now he will have to work hard to win me and thousands of other fans back over again and more importantly his relationships with some of the players are bound to have been damaged. For some reason you have a pretty extreme support of the man. What you have as your signature I applaud but doesn't quite ring true with your 'acceptance'.
McCarthy has been the first truly decent manager that ME has appointed and the best since Joe Royle. What Mick did for us last season will put him down as a Town hero but we can't ignore the fact that his services will always be in demand. We don't know what sort of financial backing he got in the Summer but looking from the outside I don't think Evans has given him the backing that he wanted. Yes Mick said publicly that he was content with the players he has got but he had to say that didn't he! I believe that if Evans had really shown some ambition for this club in he summer there would be no question over Mick staying but to be honest now I'm not really sure if Mick will stay.
I'm going with the thought,no news is good news. But like majority would have much preferred he clarified his stance one way or the other. In no way would I like to see him go. He performed wonders last season to which we are all thankful and we are an improved team. I would just like him to say hes got a work in progress and wants to see it thru.
