Sinned or sinner? chance for redemption?

I've squarely laid into him at every turn but there is a weak photon, only one, glowing dimly deep in my memory, for him.

If he does return though, we must assess him as he is NOW with no recrimination or sentimentality.

I am being hypocritical, and you'd be right to tag me so, but if he returned and showed desire, put in the effort to get fit and fought for his place then, I wouldn't be happy but that's my failing, I'd swallow hard and give him his chance, for him to prove a point? or for redemption? The club should assess his condition and act accordingly ... if his injury is not resolved we should put in the same amount of effort we gave to Bodde.

Some would say though Yankee, that Bodde never left us nor asked to, where as Michu did both. Also Bodde at the time was key to our future plans, hence the time we spent trying to get him back to fitness, Michu was never this.

Even so, we nurtured Michu's injury most of last year. We did everything possible to get him back to fitness. We sent him home for his treatment, a courtesy the then management denied to Ki. After his rehab at home and upon his return Michu then asked to leave us, effectively putting in a transfer request.

As far as I can see we have already showed patience with Michu and put in the effort yet he put in a transfer request and showed petulance and poor attitude on the couple of games he did play.

So, my question is, why should we put in any more effort for a player who handed in a transfer request, advising that he never wanted to play for us? He turned his back on us and now you expect us to bend over for him again?

    Once bitten and all that.

To calm things though, I have to say that we know nothing about anything until Michu lets his feelings known. If he shows desire and is fit to play then he's in, but if he remains the 'Grey Man' then.....Europe, Championship, league 1, loan. We'd never ever loan him to a prem club and if his ankles are shot, we could never sell him.

Hypothetical - Would you take an ex back after she dumped you, slagged you off, shagged an Italian, who then dumped her because she was used up aand then she cam crying back to you, but only because she had no where else to go? Just a bit of fun

I do not think he has either the fitness or the mental capacity to play for us ever again, only my view of course but time will tell................<ok>

To many burnt bridges from both ends to even imagine Michu playing for us again . Good luck to him though. If hes looking to get out of Napoli because of playing time , what does that say about injury problems , maybe not as bad as we think .

Stumpy ... my understanding is that Bodde never gave the same commitment to his recovery that the club did. So in that sense he free loaded. Michu hasn't done that and played most of last season in some discomfort. Without knowing the atmosphere within the club after Laudrup left and the way other Spanish players were treated it's not fair to condemn Michu.

Fair point re Bodde which I totally agree with, Can't stop my bitterness from rising sometimes Yankee <ok>

Your right of course, if he does come back then he and Monk need to sit down as men and thrash it out.

I recall there were strong rumours that Ferrie was looking for a move away but he got injured.
'Bodde looked set for the Swans exit door as he handed in a request for "personal reasons" with interest in his services coming from Sunderland, Derby, Reading, Charlton and others.'
    June 2008
    http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/19738/ferrie-could-stay-at-swansea

"It seems that Ferrie Bodde has lost patience with the Swans management, according to Sky Sports News. In an unfair attack on the club he apparently said in an interview:
"It is stressing me out. I am waiting but this has been going on since the start of my holidays some seven or eight weeks ago. I am at Swansea now, but my heart and my head are not. At times I am not sure what I will do, but my family is my main focus. I never wanted to leave with a bad taste, but the way things have gone is not my fault.
It was a hard decision to leave, as it was when I left Holland to come to Swansea. It is normal some people may think this is all about me, but it isn't because Swansea are the ones who need to sort this out - they need to be fair. I came here to be a success and I have been helping them to the Championship, but I have ambitions. I want to be in the Premier League and with Derby next year I think I will be and then, I would love the chance to push for the national side. I want to play for Derby and really hope that happens soon so I can begin training with them ready for the new season."
He later claimed to have been misquoted.

I fully agree with Stumpy - mixed feelings for Michu. Like everyone else I loved the guy that first season and put down everyone on other forums who said he'd be a one season wonder. <doh> When he did play last season he showed little desire, effort or application. Then leaving without so much as a thanks to the fans didn't help.

BUT, like Stumpy I really hope that if he returns he shows what he's failed to show in the past, that's if his injury doesn't do him in. A fully firing Michu is an asset to any team, but I think that Laudrup's departure and the problems in his personal life affected him badly too and he may never be the same player again.

Give him a chance? Well, he's earned that hasn't he? But he has to change his attitude.

Phil - I suspect that you are correct.

However, if Napoli did send him back, I would not be averse to having Michu as part of the squad - he could make a huge impact (from the bench) ......... assuming that he "wants to play for us", is prepared to fight and earn a starting place and, of course, is fit.

The Michu of 2 seasons ago would be a better "bet" than Gomis (from what we've seen so far) - last season"s Michu is of no use to us, and would be better loaned out again.

    Just my opinion! <cheers>

I'm not sure Monk would agree.

What's all this talk of photons, swallowing hard and, dare I say, redemption?!

    Madness! I tell you!

Yeah, I'd give him 20 minutes here and the like Marv or Gomis.

He is a Swansea City player and that is enough for me.

Lets not forget Britton left us at one point too, did we not welcome him back with pretty much open arms?

I guarentee that if he was to return and score the winner against a big club or just start scoring a few goals, all the moaning about him would be forgotten by most fans and the East stand would be singing his name pretty quickly.

I think that's right TLF. But players have to earn the fans' respect and whilst Michu certainly did that the fans aren't stupid (what am I saying?) most fans aren't stupid and would expect a degree of application and effort if he was to return. Not too much to ask imo.

Dragon I agree, but you know how fickle all football fans are, he does need to show some application (If he was to come back) but a couple of goals and he will be the darling of most at The Liberty again. Whether he will get that chance is another thing.

I would have him back if he had the right attitude, no problem. He should be made to fight for his place if he did!

At the minute he's not good enough to get into the team, so until he shows a bit of form and a bit of desire to play for the Swans he won't be anywhere near our starting X1
