http://www.teamtalk.com/swansea-cit...ists-he-has-no-thoughts-about-leaving-Swansea Almost as listening to ML denying ambition to knave bigger club.
he does come across as being loyal ( read the many previous posts about him) so I don't doubt his integrity but who knows what his personal ambitions are , and is he driven by money ? All I know is I'm counting my blessings that I have the pleasure of watching playing in a Swans kit and long may it continue.
Everything I've heard him say suggests he isn't motivated by money at all. That said, there isn't a player on the planet who would turn his nose up at Champions League football. If one of the big guys comes in he'll go and nobody should blame him.
Yeah enjoy him while we can I say. For me probably the best player in our history and a fantastic role model
"Fantastic role model" - he certainly is Norway. My lad had Alan Curtis as a role model/hero,back in the mid 70's,but were he starting out now,Michu would be a no-brainer for that role. Whilst I respect your opinion,I feel that there are several other players that would "probably" be above Michu in the "best player in our history" list. Ivor Allchurch;Alan Curtis;Cliff Jones for starters. Michu is a class act,and no-one can deny that, but I don't see him remaining with The Swans' long enough to usurp the aforementioned trio, from my "best player" list, anyway. We are fortunate to have him in a Swans' shirt, and long may that continue.
I agree with this. However, if Michu makes the Spanish world cup finals' squad and plays in the quarter finals then he would be alongside Ivor and Cliff. If Michu really is seriously being considered by Del Bosque then this could happen.
Of course the best player is an individual choice . As great as the others Are they never won the swans th the league cup or played for the world cup winners and Europe winner's as a striker , a feat we won't fully appreciate until years later . Everyone has a different view though of course
I only have my late forebearers and ancient posters to fall back on re Allchurch and Jones, however I did watch Curt, and IMHO as far as I am concerned Michu will be the greatest IMHO (and his legacy is not even complete). You can argue over abilities till the cows come home and there will be no winner, but no player has ever put the Swans on the global map like Miguel. In my 40 odd years as a Jack bastard, when I was abroad and I told any foreign natives I supported Swansea, they always looked at me with perplexity apart from those that knew Tosh's history pre Real as a manager. They very rarely may have heard of the club, but no mention of Allchurch, Jones or Curtis. In fact you would be amazed even if a fellow Brit brought them up. Go abroad now and say your a Swan and people will smile and say "Ah, Michu!" Enough said.
All well and good professing loyalty when that loyalty hasn't been seriously tested. In all likelihood he'll be gone not long after Laudrup.
Well I tend to agree, Lone. Michu has already said he came here for the Manager (no surprise there) and my concern is that next season many will want out when he goes.
As a player who is playing in an era of modern football where fitness, stamina etc are so important, Michu is up there with the greatest to ever where the shirt.......loyalty is yet to be confirmed, although times between era's have changed so much, it will never be like it was when previous Swans Legends played.........some of the old players probably had letters delivered by pigeon and it took 3 days to get to London ......modern day Legend soon though especially if he stays!
That is a concern. I suspect that the club will have to hold firm on contractual obligations and ensure that players leave on our terms only. Michu was happy enough to sign an extended deal. He'll have to honour it if we choose no matter what happens to Laudrup. Don't think he's the type to strop though.
What if laudrup stays he hasnt said he is going and could sign another extension to his contract - hey fergie was at manure forever (wishful thinking)
I can see Laudrup staying, but only if he can motivate himself. He needs an aim. Like Europa league was this season. ML is Facinated by the concept of the cup-tournament, which is why Swansea are in the EL in the first place: he did prioritise those matches last season! As we've seen with lineups he'll play the stronger (or better motivated) 11 against Valencia, and then fumble in the PL.
I'll be delighted if ML stays but he's already turned down Champions League football once and I can't see him doing that again. He's probably already taken us as far as we're likely to go, barring Euro success of course. Think we'll do a Getafe and get knocked out further along the line. Laudrup will then realise he can do no more and nobody should blame him.
I agree , although with no "in the know" connections I do believe that we are a project for him and due to our limited resources both on and off the field then this year will be the best he'll get from the squad .What happens to the squad when he goes may be a bigger concern to us.
I've just seen a great article about Michu by Max Hicks on the ESPN site - well worth a read. I took the opportunity to catch up with some previous articles on the site and Max really does nail the essence. Take a look at some beautifully written, highly informative stuff about our beloved football team. They give a great perspective from a die-hard fan who tells it exactly as he sees it. Simply put, for me it's far and away the best Swans' blog on the net. Unmissable if you love the Swans!
