The only other player who has played consistently to a high standard for us this season is Johan Elmander, but at roughly halfway into this season Turner has been our best player by a mile. He seems like the kind of guy who doesn't shout about his achievements but the squad must respect what he does because he was player's POTS last season and if he goes on as he has been he has to be nailed on for our POTS right? We simply don't have another defender who can concentrate for a full 90 minutes. He might not have any pace but he more than makes up for it with superb positioning and faultless timing of challenges. There may not be too much cause for optimism right now but last season's scapegoat deserves the recognition his performances merit.
He's been playing so well you often don't even notice him, in the same way you sometimes have to pay attention to see what Howson's doing. Turner isn't always the one making the spectacular last minute challenges - because he was in the right place to avert danger before it got to that stage. He's not going to get caught in possession or rampage forward like Bassong - because he's a defender and knows his role. His distribution might not be the best, but it's not going to put us in trouble.
