http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2104000/Kieran-Richardson-set-Sunderland-exit.html At the end of the article they say: "Michael Turner, Titus Bramble, Craig Gordon, Matthew Kilgallon and Ahmed Elmohamady could all be sacrificed at the end of the campaign to bolster O'Neill's transfer kitty."
I'd take Turner over Gerrard if given the option but he might be on too much money now, Bramble has Marlon King tendencies, Craig Gordon used to be a great keeper, not sure about now though, as for the other two the Allams might like Elmohamady, as for Kilgallon he'd be behind Gerrard and Turner on the list.
Turner is a legend and would walk into any championship team, and should be first choice for Sunderland. Would be AWESOME to get him back
not another Turner thread ? its getting as bad as Bullard now. Bramble will be lucky not to be behind bars come the summer and Kilgallon is crap. IMO, it would be no surprise at all to see Michael Turner back @ Hull City in the summer. I wounder if NB may consider playing 3 centre backs next season and 2 wing backs in a 3 - 5 - 2 formation. just saying like.
That would leave Stewart out the team and any other winger, and possibly take Daws out the picture as he doesn't have the pace to give us the width as a proper wingback and be able to get back in time. IMO Turner is a no go regardless unless we're promoted, but even if we are I think he's still a no go unless we lose Hobbs or Chester as he won't be willing to come and sit in the bench.
why would it ? who knows what will happen with Brady ? but i expect Dudg to be more prominant next season with dawson as back up in some games. 3 - 5 - 2 can soon be 5 -3 - 2 when defending and 3 - 5 - 2 when attacking. its called pass and move. Turner alongside Hobbs and Chester would be awsome. imo. time will tell.
Since when has changing from 3-5-2 to 5-3-2 back to 3-5-2 whether you're defending or attacking been known as pass and move?
You want at least 3 first team central defenders to cope with injuries, suspensions, and form. Why would Turner have a problem coming into a position where there's 3 players competing for 2 places in the team?
No ones displacing any of our back four at the moment, specially not the center backs, our defensive record speaks for itself. And all season so far we've had Chester suspended for one game, no injuries, I know anything can happen but one games hardly a worthwhile opportunity.
This debate has been ongoing since we nearly signed Ayala in the summer. Is it possible to maintain several good CBs at the same time? we had plenty in the PL but they weren't as good as the ones we have now (except Turner of course) so it's hard to say.
Right, so you don't think that when we're at the bottom end of the PL coming under a lot more pressure every week we're more likely to pick up cards and have defenders injure themselves more often than we do as a team at the top end of the Championship that excels at dominating games (without scoring)? Also in the PL there's no loan window. Once the August transfer window closes that's it until January, and then at the end of January that's it until the end of the season. If we're in the PL and don't sign another defender we will be relegated as a result, because there will be an opposition manager that decides to take one of them out knowing we have no cover and it will stop us being a threat to their survival, and that's only if we don't get as far as the middle of September and then realise one of them isn't up to it. If we're promoted either we'll sign another centre back who will be there to challenge Hobbs/Chester for a first team spot, or McShane will be staying. I wouldn't be surprised to see both happen because we're light at the back.
Don't get me wrong I'd love to see Turner here but he's going to want to e in the team every week. He maybe better than Hobbs and Chester as an individual, but as a unit I think it would be stupid to desperate them, and both have potential to be as good if not better than Turner. We'd definitely have to sign another CB, but I wouldn't want to displace any of our extremely effective unit.
