Controversial i know but think about it, Berbatov might be leaving, Keane might be going out on loan and we don't know what's happening with Macheda, we could end up with 3 strikers next season, with Owen, he'll be happy to be on the bench, add some experience to our front line because let's be honest only Rooney is the only experienced striekr we've got apart from Owen, he doesn't moan when he's not in the team, he's got a top class attitude.
How many appearances has he made this season though? Only 4 or 5 I think and they've mainly been in the cups, I think we're better off having a young striker as our 4th choice striker. I don't want another striker coming in ahead of Welbeck or Hernandez, and to be honest we're better off blooding a young striker that'll help us build for the future than Owen who is near the end of his career. And it depends how you define experience. Welbeck and Chicharito have two full seasons of Premier League experience, and after this summer they should both have a decent amount of international tournament experience (Hernandez was great in the World Cup, and Welbeck will hopefully be one of England's main strikers at the Euro's)
Well to be fair to Owen he's been injured for 6 months now so the appearance count is hardly likely to be high. For me with Berbatov leaving and Macheda not making the cut we could do worse than keeping him on as 4th striker. A position hes seems to happy enough with. Our other young players like Keane would be better of on loan. More game time.
I think Keane will stay here next season and get a few games, and the season after that he'll go on loan to a premier league club. Both Welbeck and Macheda have done similar things. As they start to break through into the first team they stay for a bit to train with the first team and get a few sub appearances. Then the following season the go out on loan. If we don't sell Macheda he needs to go out on loan to a team whose Manager won't get sacked right after he arrives on loan.
