Signing for Birmingham full time when his loan expires. Personally, I don't see us as having a good enough squad to be able to let him go (for free, I suppose) but I only occasionally see games. Anyone a bit better informed than me want to comment (no, not you Reams!)
Sigh. It was inevitable, but considering their financial status I don't imagine we'll be getting a lot (if anything) for him. Good luck to him - he seems to have settled in well up there, with results definitely picking up.
We will get a fee for him as he signed a two year contract in the Summer. He has done well for us through the years and i would like to thank him for the 100 per cent effort. He is getting regular football at Birmingham, so it is a good move for him. We have got a number of good, young central defenders in Terrell Thomas, Odileye and of course the best of the bunch Gomez.
yep, good luck to him. i feel it is a massive mistake though and a bit of short sightedness. TBH will only have legs in him for another year or two, and Bikey, before signing saying he had to think long and hard about signing as he wasnt sure if he liked the pace of the championship. we'll get another no-name in, who'll have a one in eight chance of being alright, on cheaper wages, who can speak french and dont mind playing in belgium, spain or hungary.
Agree your first paragraph. I wish him well. He's put in over 100 appearances for us and hasn't let the side down. Good luck MM. Sadly, I think your second and third paragraphs carry too much the tinge of well founded prophecy..... it all seems soooooooooo inevitable.
He's been a club stalwart, and I'm not pleased at all that he's gone. And to whoever says that we've got better players in, remember all those clean sheets we had with Morro and Dervite? Sure he played it long at times but nearly always because there was no-one to pass to. Most of the time now when the back 4 are passing between themselves the ball ends up going back to the goalie who has to make a hurried hoof anywhere.
If it's used towards a striker I'll be happy. If it's a repeat of last January when we sold assets and saw no re-investment then I'll be miffed and p****d
I wish MM all the best. Not the greatest centre half we have ever had, but always did his best for us.
Very good at league one - decent at championship. Was he in the top 3 for poty the past three seasons?
Always rated big man Morro, and good luck to him, feel it sucks how he's been treated this year, will defo give him a round of applause if he ever played at the Valley again.
I can't see it being a big fee - they simply don't have the money. I reckon it will be a nominal fee, possibly with several add on's.
It was inevitable. A bit disappointing, but I assume once Ben Haim and Bikey have run their course we'll replace them with similar end-career short term fixes. That's the world we're in now.
According to the SLP, Morrison is leaving on a Free Transfer. A very bad decision by the Club. Offer him a two year contract in the Summer, then get rid of an experienced Championship player for nothing in January. How much would it cost us to buy a player similar to Morrison with one and a half years left on his contract? It is all very well granting him a free transfer for his service, but to me it doesn't add up.
I think he signed the contract before Bob decided he didn't rate him to the extent that he was unlikely ever to play for Charlton again. This put us in a weak bargaining position. I wonder if Lawrie Wilson will be next now that Bulot is fit?
I was very opposed to our signing Ben Haim, but he has been very good, probably better than Morrison. However Ben Haim is 32. His legs could go anytime, plus older players take longer to recover from injuries. We know he is not the type to show loyalty if he or the team hits a bad patch. Morrison is 26, just entering his prime years as a CB. With a regular place should soon become a million pound CB, whereas TBH is worth nothing on the market.
