Looking at their board it seems that yet again we have fan pressure - the curse of modern day football!! Look at the season they had last year with a club that is probably more of a minnow than us yet one dodgy spell this season causing Swansea to slip into the bottom half and it's sack the manager. Look at Scotland this week. A team top of the table sack the manager under pressure from the fans because they have only drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 3 games - lunacy or what!! 'Sack the manager ' is all we get from fans nowadays but why? Does it bring success? 4 out of the bottom 5 clubs in our league have sacked managers this season and where are they? - Still in the bottom 5. Teams like Wolves have sacked managers for fun and the more they sacked the lower they fell. What happens after the manager is sacked ? - They realise that replacements are hard to find apart from the pool of managers recently sacked for poor performance. Sackings have got to be logical decisions taking all factors into account especially finding an ideal replacement and stop being based on knee jerk reaction to fan pressure. I have read with growing annoyance the hysterical calls for CH to be sacked, not because I think he is doing a wonderful job but because I have not seen one suggestion as to a reasonable, instant available replacement. The only name I have seen mentioned is a man who has no experience in management, no experience in the Premiership and whose only experience is the successful running of a youth side. FFS - it's like a Company sacking the Chief Exec and replacing him with a Junior Manager who successfully organised the Christmas party.
It amazes me how selective and short term some fan's memories are! Swansea won the FA Cup and are in the Europa league! Yet they aren't performing well enough so Laudraup has to go. They all seemed to think he was the best thing since sliced bread last season! It's this short term view of managers that I really dislike in the modern game. No one gets a chance. Infact, Norwich are probably the only team bucking the trend. If Hughton was at any other club he would have been chopped several months ago! I for one am grateful that we don't have a reactionary board who swings the manager axe at the slightest chance.
What would worry me is there were strong rumours that he was going to walk at the end of the season! Where did he plan to go?
And I think that was part of the reason for him getting the boot, that he wasn't prepared to commit to the club beyond this season. I don't think it's a great surprise really, Swansea have not won many games lately and even though it's still fresh in the memory you can't trade on last season's performance. Some managers - and players for that matter - seem to be able to perform well for one season but then things start to unravel and I think that's probably been the case with Laudrup.
I have at times wanted Hughton to leave mainly for the brand of football but then more recently due to continued lack of results/performacnes. However, I had changed my mind (probably the opposite way round to most recently) and wanted him to stay as I didnt think there was anyone else out there that I would want to take a chance on. I would definitely want Laudrup here, I just couldnt see him doing any worse than Hughton is currently and maybe our brand of football might become more watchable.
I like Laudrup and the way he had Swansea playing last year was fantastic, I would have taken him at the end of the season in a heartbeat. However, his teams performances this year have been questionable. He sets his teams up similar to ours and they have had problems scoring goals this season, with arguably a better midfield than ours and a more expensive striker. I know Michu has been injured for a good proportion of the season and that has had an effect on results. Would we really be better off with another manager who has struggled to get a team scoring? In conclusion I am left with a question, How much of last seasons success was down to Michu's clinical finishing ability rather than Laudrups management?
To be fair, scoring hasn't really been a problem - they've scored 50% more than us and are 10th for goals scored. Their real problem is that they keep losing games narrowly and are on a dreadful run of form.
I would love Laudrup as manager but at this stage of the season i would only be happy to replace Hughton if we are in the bottom 3 and dead and buried. Hopefully the turmoil will suck Swansea into the bottom 3 , no offense to Swasea they are a great bunch but it`s dog eat dog now.
