http://www1.skysports.com/football/...Laudrup-has-signed-a-new-contract-at-the-club Ole, Oleee, Ole, Oleee, Ole, Oleee, you know the rest!!!
Dont get carried away lads, Brendan did the same thing and the rest is history, However its still good news and not that unexpected as it means that if Madrid do want him they will have to pay a bit more.......Its very common today that a manager who knows that he could be moving signs an extension to make sure the club gets good compensation...
I hear you Dai, but Brenda and ML are two entirely different types of people aren't they. One is chasing glory and trying to scramble upward the best he can, while ML has buckets of glory and a trophy cabinet full stocked and is now just out to prove to the football world that his talent that served him so well on the field can also make big things happen on the field when he's standing on the side of it (.... by the way, if he chose to lace up his boots he probably could have murdered poor Bradford all by himself).
We don't know that do we yankee. We have heard all this extending a contract before and it don't mean a thing except to guarantee the club gets adequately compensated... that's all it means...If he stays thats great even though he would only sign a one season contract and i can understand that because signing a longer contract could jeopardize his future as clubs wont pay real mega money for him and will put clubs off even the bigger clubs.....Its a good move by laudrup but we have seen it all before and dont really mean anything.....
Great news. I know what Dai is saying but in the short term, this will make this summers signings a lot easier to make and will probably save a few quid on transfer fees. Players that suit or style WANT to play for him and us. It removes doubt about MLs commitment and makes a bidding war a lot less likely.
I think its a brilliant move by him as it will give players on the radar of other clubs like ash, chico, vorm and even young Ben that i have heard some clubs are interested in him pause for thought. I would if them rather go into europe with him as boss than any new manager and future signings who want to play under laudrup will more likely come than if he wasn't our boss.....
Dai speaks a lot of sense. Yes, I repeat, Dai speaks a lot of sense. Basically, extending his contract means nothing apart from more compensation if he leaves.
Aswan its only because we have seen it all before. We wont know for certain untill next season and more important is no other bugger will know....Its a great move for us...
Sorry aswan, it means a lot more than that. As stated, it sets a standard and a commitment for our current and future playing staff. Laudrup's history as a player shows he respected a contract and was far from a glory seeker. As one of the football worlds hottest properties, he turned down Liverpool when they changed contract terms last minute and joined Juve instead. After 6 years (including loan periods when he could have walked away) he was sold by Juve as unbelievably, in his final season, he was benchwarming. He went to Barca and after 5 years, came the spat with Cryuff, forcing his hand to join Real. At 32, he was considered to old by Real and then sold (but was still international class for a further 2 years). This doesnt paint a picture of a glory seeking, money hungry mercenary like we have become accustomed to. Contract wise, Laudrup is a different beast to the norm. Tonight, I for one am sure he will be here for AT LEAST 14 more months. Happy days
I agree with Swim. ML seems to be a man of his word. His intention is to remain with us next season and by signing a new contract I fully expect to see him in charge until the end of next season. However, if he does leave in the summer because RM come calling, then we will be handsomely compensated so Huw Jenkins and the board should be applauded for putting us in a win win situation
