Hi all, Newbie here Just wanted to ask, with the recent discussions around Paul Scholes and him being called up for the euro's Is it fair to expect a call for Michael carrick in 12 years time? It seems to be the england way, use them wrong at their prime, then chase them when they are too old and make them into scape goats of sorts (I refer to the articles criticising scholes for not being 'proud' to play for england)
It's quite funny how people want England to play more like Spain yet don't play the players that the Spanish rate the most.
I sometimes wonder if it's worth it for United players to play for England. They get scapegoated every tournament because we haven't won, never mind that many generations have absolutely nothing. Scholes for example was being forced by the media, the whole stories about him not scoring for England in 3 years, that Gerard and Lampard were better etc. Now 8 years later he is slated for abandoning his country when he was forced out, and that at 37 he should come back and do what he does best. Ridiculous. At the upcoming EURO 2012, Rooney will be blamed for missing the first 2 games and not doing enough on his return and probably Welbeck will accused of not being standard. Watch this space. *Rant over*
After the recent game against the dutch I would think anyone wanting to be England manager has to be a bit mad in the head. There have been calls for a German style approach, with younger players coming in and phasing out the old guard. SP comes in and does exactly that, and despite the loss, I personally felt it was the best performance from england for a while The youngsters stepped up. Yet look at the stick being sent in his direction.
