Im really pleased, I was disappointed to hear of Cleverley leaving until I remembered Carrick remained
There are two ways this could go. Carrick is very much a confidence player so LVG along with the likes of Herrera or Blind, together with Mata and Di Maria, will bring out the best in a rejuvenated Carrick inspired by the football we play. Or....he continues to hold up our play, offers little defensively or creatively and although he has given great service to the club in some of our most successful periods, his time at United is over.
Good assessment. Massively underrated player by English fans who like their midfielders to be all action, Hollywood pass players. There's a reason why Carrick was the mainstay in Fergie's midfield from 2007 onwards. But he's not been great the past couple of seasons. Hopefully he will suit LVG's feelosoophee. He's been competent as a central defender on occasion for United so he could play the DM role and slot in at centre half when Jones goes on one of his Baresi / Gullit like runs up the pitch.
He's also been pretty unlucky with midfield partners tbf. Had Hargreaves stayed fit that pairing offered so so much. Then Fletcher upto 2009 was a great pairing also. I would stick my neck out and say had he not been banned (unjustly) from the final, we would have another European Cup. And then Scholes retiring, twice. Who else, oh yeh Anderson, who lets be honest should have been a quality AM, but was never going to be a box to box midfielder, heaven knows why Fergie persisted with that idea.
All piss taking aside Carrick has been a good player for Its over the years and has been effective in his role. At this moment he may not for but I wouldn't mind being that he will class his way back into your team and allow some of the more forward thinking players to flourish
