I know there are differing opinions on Brown, and yes he does put his foot in, but for me he should not be given a new contract for next season. He is past his best now, and I also don't see him capable of delivering over a full season. He has looked good at the tail end of the season because he hasn't played a lot so has been a bit fresher than most. Much better to release him and use the money on a younger talent. We have to stop signing these old 'uns who ultimately fail to push Leeds on and sit on their contracts when it suits them. Brown has stretched himself since Colin came in because he wants a new deal, but I really hope he leaves in the Summer.
I think there's a year left in him easy. Even if he is past his best, he's still better quality & more consistent than any other DM we've got. I think he's worth a gamble, even if we only get every second game out of him. Who's going to be a better, cheaper replacement?
Can't answer your question as no idea who will be available in Summer, but now is the time to build not stand still, and Brown is not the future anymore.
Not a starting place next season, but certainly a good replacement when injuries, bans and fatigue set in
I agree Billystatue, new younger faces are needed, out with the old and in with the new, build a team around the young lads who will be there 5 or 6 year and try get something solid going in hope of gaining promotion.Let's look forward not back.
He'd be good to have around the squad playing every few games. Hes the type of player warnock likes anyway
As we have finished mid table this season and got thrashed more than once I think EVERY player is replaceable as long as we always get someone in who is better. Agreed players like Snodgrass and McCormack are not priority positions but even then, if NW cashed in on Snoddy and brought in a group of players who get us promoted who cares. Brown might have a season left, I think central midfield needs improving, we haven't replaced Howson I would be happy to see Brown used as back-up I would also be happy if he left and we brought in two players of greater ability.... The key is who are we really aiming for and who will we bring in, the signs this season are slightly better than last but until the first 3-4 players come into Elland Road we have no idea if Bates is keeping his promise to back Neil.
Ristac, good point...when signings start arriving we will get a better picture of what Warnock is thinking. He keeps saying Bates will back him, so now it must be down to his targets coming in. Hopefully he will do better than Grayson at getting players in. He said it's not about money but players wanting to join a big clubs like Leeds, and his first signing is done and dusted and will be announced early in May....and we will like him. Interesting times
