I know it has nothing to do with his contract being cancelled, but it's good to see players being condemned for this sort of comment- no space for homophobia in football. Or anywhere for that matter.

I dont think gay people would be accepted by some supporters in this country and thats probaly the reason why players dont come out as gay. It doesnt help their cause when Michael Ball comes out with stuff like that

Well after how Justin Fashanu was treated i dont think other players will want to come out either

Statement from Michael Ball via Twitter

I apologise unreservedly for the comment in question, which was posted to my Twitter account in November 2011, regarding Antony Cotton. When I saw the comment I decided to delete it from my page immediately. However I accept that I mistakenly re-tweeted the comment and while the comment itself was not intended to cause offence, I do accept that it did include a word or words that have been viewed as When I saw the comment I decided to derogatory. Therefore I wish to extend my sincere apologies to the Football Association, to Leicester City Football Club, and to Antony Cotton for any distress, offence and embarrassment caused by my actions.
In future I will ensure that this will not happen again!
