Skysports.com understands a number of clubs are monitoring Micah Richards' contract situation at Manchester City.

Manchester City have opened talks with Richards about a contract extension with the England international having two years to run on his present deal.

The 23-year-old, who is thought to be on £50,000 a week, is believed to be among the lowest earners in City's star-studded squad.

Richards was Roberto Mancini's first-choice right-back last season and he played a key role in helping City win the FA Cup and claim a place in the UEFA Champions League by finishing third in the Premier League.

Talks are ongoing between both parties, but a deal is believed to be some way off, alerting a number of Richards' suitors.

Premier League trio Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are long-term admirers of Richards and they are all thought to be keeping tabs on developments.

All three clubs are in the market for defensive reinforcements and they could move for Richards if they are given any encouragement that he may not agree a new deal at Eastlands.

Italian giants Juventus are also thought to be interested in Richards and are weighing up a move for him should a new deal not materialise.

Richards is understood to be keen to stay at City, but if he is unable to agree a new deal he may be forced to consider his options.

I don't think we need a new centre back but Richards is a very good prospect. In 5 years time (once he learns positioning) he will be an excellent player).

Yes we do need a new centre back. Richards is a right back anyway. Would be good to fill in for Sagna when he's injured, plus he's going to be the wrong side of 30 soon.

Richards is just the type of player Wenger should be buying, he's big, strong, good in the air and he wouldn't cost a fortune (wages wise)

Trouble is as far as Wenger is concerned he's not French snd therefore he's basically not interested.

Hopefully being english he'll just hoof the ball tho, instead of doing whatever the **** it was clichy did
Or just use his "english grit and determination" to snap the opposition legs in half

Seriously though, I'm sad to say I have no opinion on Micah Richards. He could be a good buy but I just don't know really.....

we do def need a defender but as much as i like richards his best position is at rb and we dont need a rb although i know he could play at cb if need be so could be good cover - would just be an expensive 4th choice cb?

    Samba/Cahill will sign maybe.
    Kosc is decent Backup

Do we need another CB? I suppose we do need another RB though, but with only Gibbs and Jenkinson, the best guy would be one that can play LB and RB. That's not that common though.

  9. I think that along with a defender, we need a defensive strategy. Hopefully Arsene will be addressing this over the summer. I believe Thomas Vermaelen's return will make a big difference but we shouldn't be reliant on him alone. Having a solid back four may well have give us the title last year. We cannot afford to be as careless come mid August.

richards would be an excellent signing and would be pretty cheap as man city usually sell their unwanted players cheaply and hes an Arsenal fan
