Great to see the kid working his socks off to get back to fitness. That said, I'm not convinced he'll be any more than a squad player if he stays. With the severity of his injuries, I just can't see him becoming a gun first team CM. Would love to be proven wrong of course and I appreciate it will take at least one season of matches for him to get back into the swing of things.

Looked as if he'd lost pace. Let's hope it comes back to perform at the top level.

Good read that. If he can show the same determination on the pitch and stay injury free, he should be an asset to our club. Good luck to him.

Not sure he's reached the level he was when he had a run of games a couple of years back. He's looked pretty average in the rare occasions he has had a chance in the first team and unfortunately I think Catts, Colback and Gardner all rank above him in the cm role so it's hard for him to stamp his authority on the first team.

Still hopeful he can make it though and it's good to see he's got a chance for Ireland.

He was blowing like an old steam train after only 30 mins on Saturday and looked slower than a lead boot wearing lass, pulling a lorry through a desert.

I have often said I think both him and Frazier, great lads that they are, will ever come back to be top half EPL players. It wouldn’t surprise me if one or both are not with us after the January window closes. David Vaughan is a better midfielder imo and when he is fit, Meyler will be 4th choice behind Catts, Colback and Vaughan for that same role. Campbell is currently sitting 3rd or 4th choice striker and with AJ and Larsson in the wide role, 3rd choice there too.

Also, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a new striker and midfielder on our shopping list for Jan or the summer of 2013 at the latest?

I like many others looked forward and hoped Meyler was going to be our Fellini(?) (the Everton player). However, it does look as if he has a very long way to go, he may just need games but he it was slower than I recall, he often looked lost as he lost his bearings and did not look as if he was reading the game that well.

He will need a run of 6-8 games to show whether he will make it. Difficult to come on as a sub here and there and pick up the pace of a game instantly.

I hope he does come good cos prior to his injuries I thought he looked better than Catts.
