Well I said a couple of weeks a go, I would wait and see if he turns into the best player ever seen. (Was thinking in years not weeks. ) The lad is a phenomena, 234 goals for Barca, 30+ a season! The guy he has surpassed Rodriguez only managed 232 goals in 13 years! I have that ITV4 programme on him recorded, I will have to get round to watching it tomorrow. I can honestly say, I have never seen a cleverer footballer than the little maestro. I was lucky enough to see Best in his pomp, but I think Messi is just a class above.
No doubt he WILL be the best player to ever grace the game, but too early to say he's the best ever yet. He reminds me of a cross between Pele and Maradona. George Best in his prime was no-where near as good as Messi is now (and he's yet to reach his prime). Messi will go down as a great, along with the likes of Pele, Maradona, Eusebio, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, and Puskas.. all these players were leagues above Best. In my opinion Dalglish is closer to the players mentioned above than Best was, and I don't particularly like the guy, but for me he's the best player to grace the English league. P.S. I was expecting more from the documentary, it's good but lacks something.
Couldn't disagree more about Best he was a complete player. He could dribble , head and tackle and was a very smart footballer. He could do all of the above equally well! Best was doing this in teams where for the majority of the time he was carrying them. Best in a class team like Barcelona would have been immense! The players you have put above Best astounds me. Apart from Maradonna and Pele. And they weren't the all round players Best was.
just thinking Messi would cost more than SAFC if just say Ellis decided to sell the club along with the value of all the playing staff the lads just unbelievable and providing he doesn't get any serious injuries you could say he is still less than halfway through his career
I'm watching the documentary now. The growth treatment they had to give him when younger was causing injury problems as he grew. Which meant he had to work twice as hard in training to build up his body to cope. Like you say a hell of a lot more to come.
