Fairly simple... Do you agree with the following statement by Looney. WAYNE ROONEY claims Barcelona star Lionel Messi would struggle if he played in the Premier League. Argie maestro Lionel Messi helped destroy Wayne Rooney and his Manchester United team-mates in a one-sided Champions League triumph at Wembley on Saturday. But although the United striker has hailed Messi as the worldâs best, he reckons it wouldnât be so easy to display his silky skills at some English grounds. And Rooney believes it is Barcaâs midfi eld duo Andres Iniesta and Xavi who help make Messi look so brilliant. âIf you bring Xavi and Iniesta with him, yes he could dictate games in England. But it would be difficult, almost impossible for him to play as he does in Spain,â said Rooney on talkSPORT. âThe game is more physical here, going to the likes of Birmingham and Stoke away is very demanding.â
I see Rooneys point but if Messi were to sign he'd still be phenomenal. I know most people think Messi is the best player in the world but I personally think Cristiano Ronaldo is better. He's proved it in the best two leagues in the world and smashed records in an inferior Madrid team this year. Unfortunately id say with almost certainty that we will never see Messi in the premier league.
Agreed he is quality parker but he does have a tendency to freeze on the massive occasion... bangs em in all season and hardly in the games versus barca
Ronaldo only broke that goalscoring record in the league because he got 11 in his last 4 games- after Madrid were out of the CL, and after they realistically had a shot at the title. When they were going for things as a team he didn't do as well, but after all hope was gone for silverware he concentrated on individual glory. Messi, however, scored his 53rd of the season (matching Ronnies 53 in all comps) against Man Utd, where he produced a MoM display to help his team win the CL and their 10th major trophy in 3 seasons. Messi all day long for me.
And can you actually imagine how bad Rooney would be in the Spanish league. Not that anybody in Spain would ever try to but him anyway unless they wanted to scare some people away from their ground.
I don't really think that question needs answering mate, Messi would be a success in any professional football league. His all-round game is phenomenal, his awareness, touch, skills all top notch. Of course he'd be a success, if he slotted into a team where he was allowed that roaming roll he plays so well. Teams would have to resort to the dirty!
On a side note imagine the uproar if Messi was sold, Barcelona would go up in smoke! Messi seems to be most comfortable with a roaming role on the right hand-side of the pitch although I believe he's also done well on the left! Imagine Man U or Chelsea playing 4-3-3 with him as part of the set-up! Maybe Mancini is lining up an audacious bid to test the water?!
I dont think Messi would struggle, but would he score 40 league goals, i doubt it, and i dont think he would like playing over the christmas period, or in the snow/rain/wind for most of the season (1 or 2 games a season in russia in the CL fine, most of the season, doubt it). When Ronaldo was at Man U, he scored a hell of a lot of free kicks and headers (not sure if he took pens as well) Messi wont score many headers and dont think he is a free kick specialist either, he has to dribble around players, and that will be harder in this league. You just have to see the golden boot, pretty sure if you score less goals over here, than in spain, you will get the golden boot (not sure what the ratio is though, but didnt forlan score 35 league goals but someone over here beat him to it with 30 or less a few years back). So not a failiure, would find it harder, but would still be great to see him over here.
