It looked like he was going to be let off and only his father was going to be charged, but he's just been summonsed to appear in court on three charges of tax fraud. Spain's state attorney has said that they're pressing for Messi to face a 22 month jail sentence.
He should be jailed but he quite obviously won't be. If this was some middle/upper class middle aged british White male he'd be looking at about 20 years.
It seems they're chasing quite a few players, Mascherano has just plead guilty to two counts of tax fraud, he's repaid €1.75m in unpaid tax and interest and now faces a fine to avoid further court action... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34667152
There could be some kernels of truth in the suspicions the authorities in Madrid are targeting players of the Catalan club.
An "uncanny knack" indicates repetition. Please give more details to the numerous times I've "missed the point"
Just pure ****ing greed. With Messi you can sort of apportion most of the blame on his father who would've been managing his son's finances since he turned pro but the likes of Mascherano know exactly what they're doing. He knows how society works; he knows he has to pay his fair share into the pot and yet he commits fraud anyway. If he's that precious and greedy with his money he should push for a transfer to Monaco. There's no excuse. They all deserve jail terms.
That doesn't make any sense thick **** if they're guilty they're guilty, no matter if their names Messi, Mascherano or Masuka.
If a Real Madrid player was accused of the same, I wonder whether he'd have the same attention placed on him by the Spanish media...
