LMA STATEMENT: MICHAEL LAUDRUP The LMA has issued the following statement on behalf of Michael Laudrup following his dismissal by Swansea City Football Club. Michael Laudrup said: ‘I am deeply disappointed to have been dismissed as manager of Swansea City. In particular, the manner in which it happened and the actions the club has taken since notifying me in the briefest of letters which gave no reasons why such hasty and final action was deemed necessary. I am, of course taking legal advice and the LMA have already written to the club asking for a proper explanation as to why I was summarily dismissed. Until we receive the response I am unable to say any more about the termination but I do want to take this early opportunity to thank the Swansea City fans for their continued support and say it has been an honour to manage this great football club. ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my time managing in the Barclays Premier League which I consider to be the one of the best leagues in world football. I leave the club proud of our collective achievements over the past 20 months and I believe we have continued the club’s progression in the manner of my predecessors including Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers. ‘Of course the obvious highlight during my time in charge was leading Swansea to the first major trophy in the club’s history in winning the Capital One Cup at Wembley resulting in European qualification. In addition, our 9th place in the Barclays Premier League was our highest finish in 31 years and the second highest in the club's 102-year history which again is something which fills me with pride. This season we have all enjoyed the memorable journey in the Europa League where the team will soon to face Napoli in the last 32 of the competition. The club has informed me that I cannot visit the training ground to say my farewells to the players so I do that now through this statement. The players have been fantastic and their contribution under the very professional guidance of my coaching staff has been absolutely fundamental to the club’s recent successes. Three members of my staff have also been dismissed. ‘Whilst league results have been disappointing of late, we are still 12th in the table and it is there for all to see the fine margins in the league this season in terms of points that separate 11 clubs. Although we have been unfortunate with injuries, I believe our league form would have improved and that we would have benefited from the forthcoming Europa League and FA Cup matches. ‘I wish the club the very best for the future and for the rest of the season in the Barclays Premier League, Europa League and The FA Cup.’ MICHAEL LAUDRUP http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...inted-out-by-Seabreeze)?p=6047025#post6047025
And legal action is following --> http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26070019. It doesn't make Huw look good, especially not giving him a reason for his sacking (although I think it's obvious). Not letting him say goodbye to the players (if true) is pretty despicable. Of course, this is just one side to the story, but if true it makes us look like complete amateurs.
He is a Gentleman indeed and I have enjoyed his tenure, but if he's at a loss as to why he was dismissed, then frankly I find that strange to say the least, try the form table and results Sir Michael!.....................
IF True! That's a big if, but if it is then our board have stooped to a new low, I thought the Sousa saga was bad, but clearly Huw Jenkins is now in the firing line, we are all ears Huw!...................
Yes I agree, but lets hope the club don't make it worse with their usual smoke and mirrors job, of course Laudrup could well just be playing to the Media gallery back home in Denmark to patch his flagging reputation, I'm sure the club will give him a fuller explanation though!...............
Thank you laudrup! Seems really childish not to let laudrup say his goodbye's. Huw I hope your actions was based on what's best for the club not on a personal vendetta.
I did not approve of Laudrup's dismissal but accept that the Board was right to do so if they felt there was genuine and just cause. However, if Laudrup's statement proves to be true, Jenkins & Co have opened a bag of worms that will cost us a lot of money and drag the name of our club through the mud. They are not dealing with any old manager here. Michael Laudrup is a highly intelligent person who will eat them alive if they try to prevaricate in any way. And it is my fervent hope that he will if they do. His treatment was nothing short of shoddy and the training ground ban is appalling and despicable - more evidence of the small mindedness of the people who run our club. In football terms they are business midgets and acting like it. Have they never heard of CLASS? I have lots more to say but will hold back for the moment until the full and proper facts become available but I have little doubt that they will not reflect well on our club.
It is a bit bizarre isn't it. Huw and the board are often lauded and let's be honest they love it. But there have been a number of occasions where they have not covered themselves in glory, and over time we kind of forget those episodes. I always wonder why there aren't better relationships between boards & managers (across all of football, not just with us) The board is the manager's boss after all. There should be continuous communication with two-way feedback. Can't believe we fired him via letter, I'm embarrassed by the club over this.
Jenkins vs Laudrup ---- Jenkins laid land mines around all season in the media to discredit Laudrup and finished it up by sacking him in a quick letter and barred from the players to say his goodbyes . Laudrup has his say in this letter to fans and followers like the top man he was , is and will be . Imagine turning down offers from bigger clubs to enshrine his players to stay withus for this season and not being able to say an official goodbye by our mickey mouse board . We need professional s at the top , immediately, we look like fools because of our board .
I'm not particularly impressed with this statement. How can ML be shocked? We're playing the worst football in a long time and the club is in crisis. His distinct lack of managerial skills are a huge factor in all this. Let's be honest here. If this statement didn't have "Michael Laudrup" at the top but "Mark Hughes" let's say, we wouldn't give it the time of day. This press release is purely ML trying to restore his reputation ready for the next job. Maybe if he hadn't swanned off to Paris straight after that ***** performance last Saturday, HJ might have been able to tell it to his face. We really need to move on now. The king is dead, long live the king.
Well if you ever write a book, I could give you a chapter on the Landore build short cuts and cheapskate antics of 'Bob the Builder' Martin Morgan!............
He talks like only way he has to communicate with the players is to meet them at the training ground. Very odd.
By the end of this fiasco , Huw might have cost us more with his personal vendetta towards Laudrup than Bony costs us with Jenkins complaining about his cost. Anyone who thinks this is just about recent results has there blinders firmly in place . Jenkins's vendetta started with the firing of Laudrup's agent , when we were doing fine on the pitch , and ended with his " under the rug sacking " and "outcast label " firmly placed around Laudrup
We were NOT doing fine on the pitch - our form since Wembley last season was won 2, lost 7 I think? That is ***** form. Which has continued all this season as well. SeaBreeze you need to take the blinkers off mate.
As do you mate. End of last season our season was over with, we had nothing to fight for, we played well, but didn't have that 5% to finish teams off. But we didn't fold over by any stretch. This season, we have suffered from extra games, and injury list that could resemble a shopping spree list. Even the big clubs struggle with major injuries, yet fans like you think we should have been doing just the same. We played bad against West Ham, but thats partially expected as we are still trying to get our injured players back to match fit, it was a low point yes, but when people are brandishing around our last 10 games or so, they seem to purposely forget the teams we have played, or how many of our main players were out, its a load of crap, and fans like you need to take the blinkers off. And instead of looking at the league table, look at the bigger picture. Look at it this way, this season we have 24 from 24, and have 1 of the easiest run ins on paper, now 24/24 is not relegation form, as see how many teams in the history of the Premier League have got relegated on 38 points. Then tell me we were in relegation form. Like I said, blinkers off and look at the bigger picture.
Given what he has achieved for us, he deserved his chance to put things right. The FIRST time we have remotely been in danger of relegation, the Board abandoned him in panic. Just remember that we are only five wins, at worst, from safety. According to BBC Wales, Jenkins insisted that Monk should be promoted to the coaching team, probably thinking that Laudrup would strop and leave thus saving a pay off. Laudrup called his bluff and accepted Monk but Jenkins went ahead and sacked him anyway, proving that that was the intention all along. Pathetic and a disgraceful way to behave. It also proved Jenkins to be a crass liar - just having a coffee indeed!! As Laudrup agreed to accept Monk to work with as a coach, wouldn't that have been far and away the best course to take? Monk could have supplied his input into fitness and team spirit issues and harnessed his talent to Laudrup's. If there were any team factions, that would have brought them together. The club would have remained stable and probably pushed on to safety giving everyone time to cool down and reach a rational agreement at the end of the season. No, that was far too sensible for Jenkins, who would much prefer a yes man like Monk that he can control far better than someone of Laudrup's profile and intelligence. Now we come to the money and, whatever happens, Jenkins has committed us to paying out a fortune by his hasty action. Laudrup is now due at least his contracted compensation and might well get far more for unfair dismissal if that is proved - and he has a very good case. On top of that, there are THREE other people who will also be demanding their pay offs. Had we waited until the end of the season, a negotiated compromise could have been reached and, if Laudrup moved to another club, WE would have been the party receiving millions in compensation without paying anything out. Oh, but what about if we got relegated, I can hear some bleat, we'd lose far more. Well, who's to say we WOULD be relegated? Surely a team of Laudrup and Monk working together would have at least an equal, if not better, chance of keeping us up than Monk working alone? There is every chance that there are some players who do not want to play for Monk the same way there are those who were opposed to Laudrup. Anyway, however it pans out and despite their previous good work, in this case I believe the Board have acted like a bunch of rank amateurs.
