Ouch, that looks nasty, I don't think you'll miss him much though. You are much better off with Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny at CB, and if Kieran Gibbs never returns from injury and André Santos is still out, you should play that young Coquelin fellow at LB. What an exceptional player he is.

I think he should sue Sunderland for the pitch that is cynically bad. After all didn't someone sue Wembley for their pitch?

Some people will use any excuse to berate our players though.

Mertesacker has been a really good player for us this season, but we've got good CBs, TV and Kos are great in those positions and it's Vermaelen's much prefered position.

I think LB is up for grabs at the moment. I rate Santos and he'd definitely be my no1, but as he's out injured I think the berth is between Miquel, Gibbs and Coquelin.

We will miss Mertz but its really not a huge problem as we have a top CB in Vermaelen coming back into position. In fact, against Milan's fast forwards, having a Kos and Verm partnership would be better. Also it's great to see Coqs coming through nicely. If he turns out to be another Flamini then we will be quids in!

    Oh.

Thanks for the demonstration. I wasn't planning on looking like an idiot at any point, but thanks for showing me how to anyway.

I thought it was ridiculous that the ref played on. There was no pressure on him at the time and clearly his injury was what caused the goal, I'd have been livid if it happened to Spurs.

If we'd have lost or drawn the game then I think this would be the sentiment amongst fans, as it was we won, so it's been largely overlooked. But Wenger did say at the time that the bench were about to signal to the ref to ask him to stop the game, but the goal was scored before they could get his attention.

There's no reason to stop it. Games are only stopped now if it's a head injury. Otherwise you play on. Always play to the Whistle. Sunderland did exactly what I think Arsenal would have done in that situation, and I don't blame em for it.

I don't agree - it's not Sunderlands fault Mert got injured, besides, in that split second how can the Sunderland player determine whether he was injured or simply fell over ?
JT took a tumble earlier this season at the Bridge against us resulting in RVP scoring, should RVP have waited to make sure JT got up and showed no sign of injury before rounding Cech and scoring ?
This nicey nicey give them the ball back because it's good sportsmanship is bollox because is creates an opportunity for cheats - you see it in Spain every game shown on Sky,
What if Mert had simply tripped over his shoelaces and faked an injury leading to the Sunderland fella kicking it out for a throw in ?
It's a grey area I know but it's become greyer since the game became full of 'win at all costs cheats'....

I think Mertesacker has been ok, I don't think he has been really good, I think he got off to a hard start, but then his performances got better as time went on.
I persoanlly think Coquelin shouyld be your first choice LB, despite being right footed. He has been exceptional for you.

Worrying news gents, the latest from Arsene commenting on Metz injury: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17031609

However, Wenger is less positive about the return of Mertesacker, who injured his ankle as he attempted to control the ball in Saturday's 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light.

The 27-year-old has returned to Germany to have his ankle assessed.

Wenger said: "He had a reconstruction of his ankle in Germany before he joined us and the scan didn't look to positive yesterday [Monday].
"He went back to Germany to consult the specialist to see where we go from there and he is supposed to contact me this afternoon to tell me exactly what the specialist told him. Certainly in the next month he will not be with us."

He came to us from major reconstructive surgery? This looks like a reoccuring injury <yikes>

No way they should've stopped the game, it looked like he twisted his ankle or something similar, you don't stop the game for that.
