We've got to this great situation now where Paul Merson is having a go at the appointment of Roy Hodgson as England manager because, and I quote; "The whole country - and I mean the whole country - wanted Harry Redknapp. I'm even talking about Arsenal fans who don't normally have anything nice to say about a Tottenham manager." and now asks the question; "So why have these four people take no notice of the whole country? Apart from Sir Trevor Brooking have the others ever actually played a game of football? I just can't believe the decision they've made." Sometimes you don't get what you want - you get what you need. The Liverpool debacle will hold him in good stead - a very recent lesson in dealing with being an unpopular choice. With all the egos in the dressing room the last thing we needed was one more. I hope RH does well - really well, and confounds all his critics.
Harry (amongst other things !) has charisma, which Roy H doesn't appear to have a great deal of. However, I think he will do a good job for England, with his previous International experience. I hope he does well in the job - at least Spurs have started winning again since Harry was ruled out for the England job !
Well, you know the old joke, "how many Paul Mersons does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one. He stands holding the bulb and the whole world revolves around him.
I didn't want him. My brother didn't want him. My Dad didn't want him! My mates didn't want him..! My budgie didn't want him!!!!
I did and so did all my drinking buddies but then they all know about and understand football. The London media and the celebrity worshipers wanted the Barrow Boy. If you apply logic to the appointment instead of seeking popularity Roy is the best person for the job.
I wanted either Roy Hodgson on Pardwe from the start. Both have shown to get performances out players even on a budget. Roy got Fulham to the UEFA cup final whith a bucnh of players who most I had never heard of. Pardew, has probably got Noocastle into 4th on a far lower budget than "arry".
