Would you have honestly supported a Solent City FC? because I know that I wouldn't!.

I was a bit annoyed that fans took his side and painted genuine heroes who actually care about the city like Matty and Franny as villains for a while. Spike Armstrong said on the radio that he was refused admission in one of the suites on match day once and that is a disgrace IMO.
So glad that they are all back into the fold now though.

You forget, I'm not a football supporter.

Only wish I had. I did try and find a link earlier when I wrote the post.

I don't ever remember him discussing it to be honest, sure there'd be a record of it somewhere had he said it.

Seems more like something that would have been discussed on here.

I don't remember it being discussed on here. If I ever find some evidence of Cortese referring to this subject I will post it here, now that this thread ahs been created.

On the Solent City subject, older viewers may recall Robert Maxwell's serious attempt as chairman of Oxford Utd, when he wanted to buy Reading FC and merge the two as Thames Valley Royals. Fortunately the FL told him to go and jump off his yacht.........

Well he took them too seriously.

Incidentally, I once had a paramedic friend stay for a few days, and we had one long [slightly drunk] interesting conversation about suicide. At one point, I asked him whether jumping off the stern of a boat might be a good way to end it all. After he picked himself off the floor he announced that blokes are far too melodramatic. Women just take too many pills, and either get discovered in time or they manage to kill themselves. And according to his information, drowning is one of the worst ways to kick the bucket. So now you know.

I was only asking. He did know that I'd sailed a lot. I think he got the wrong idea. :1980_boogie_down:
