http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/04/jorge-mendes-genius-mourinho-alex-ferguson Always thought Fergie was worth at least six points to you guys, but Mendes believes 12-15.
Probably a fair assessment. SAF would probably have picked up another eight points from our first five games alone. Arguably the only manager since Clough to manage to win the title without the best squad, and he did it on more than one occasion.
Ferguson was easily worth more than that. Some teams were beaten well before the match. None of the teams below 4th or 5th came to OT expecting a point never mind 3. Are we saying his role as manager of the team or his presence at the match? clearly if his players were all down to him, and they were playing to his tactics, then all the points were all down to him. Moyes showed that in quite a dramatic fashion...
The side that he won the title with in his last season, and the side that lost on goal difference the season before probably would have finished with about 60-65 points with anyone else. Fergie got them both to 85+ so he was definately worth atleast 20 points
If we were where we are now with Fergie in charge (which we wouldnt have been with Fergie in charge btw) I would fancy us to challenge for the title let alone make top 4. And that is genuinely no romantic view of things, I would feel that confident with the squad and Fergie at the helm.
I'd go a step further and say the title would already have been in the bag by now if we had spent the money we have recently with SAF in charge
