City have announced the game against Preston North End on Saturday, April 5th will be an opportunity for supporters to look back over the club's recent history and remember some of the great days. The game will be held in partnership with the Bristol City Community Trust and Sporting Memories Network. City will produce a special programme, which will include supporters' memories of following City over the years. There will also be a series of linked events in the run-up to the game and on the matchday itself at Ashton Gate. Former City players will be there on the day to meet with fans. Supporter liaison officer David Lloyd said: "This game gives us an ideal opportunity for supporters to share some of the Club's rich history. "With an impending redevelopment of Ashton Gate it's an ideal chance to celebrate some of the stadium's great moments before it changes forever." If you would like to submit your own City memory, please send your contributions to [email protected]. You should write about any City-related event in your life. Please also send in any relevant photos for inclusion in the special programme. I was at a home game a few years ago with my wife, we were sat in the Williams, just in front of the premier seats, K block I think. The smoking ban had just been imposed, second half kick off, I felt a strong whack in my ribs, I looked and my wife said, " Look at that chap, he's smoking ", I looked and saw he had a ciggy clutched in his hand. I tapped him gently on the shoulder, doing as I had been told, he turned around and said ,"yes", I replied, " This is a no smoking stadium now, would you mind putting that ciggy out". He stood up and unrolled himself, stood about 6 foot 8 inches tall, showed me the ciggy and said, " I know , it's not lit". I put on a sheepish grin, said " I'm sorry mate, if there was a hole in here I would chuck myself in it", he said, " I know". I looked around for my wife's support, she was looking in the opposite direction, busy chatting to a stranger sat next to her and totally blanked me. Every home match for the rest of the season, this huge specimen of humanity would turn around, smile at me and show me an unlit ciggy in his hand. I keep my mouth shut now and watch the match, keeping that memory, oh and I ignore my Mrs.
'City have announced the game against Preston North End on Saturday, April 5th will be an opportunity for supporters to look back over the club's recent history and remember some of the great days' Sorry Wiz, but I'm becoming disillusioned with BCFC. In any other business, we (customers) would have received abject apologies by now for the crap we put up with. What happens City : They'll put out any old rubbish to try and take decent, and possibly gullible supporters mind off the sh*t we're in. And then we'll get our reminders to renew our STs to finance next seasons guts ache. Sorry again mate, but F**k em.
I hear what you are saying RP - they have to get it right on the pitch first - once that happens everything else feels right
I always look forward to Victors rants, you really ought to get yourself a newspaper column. The rest of the world is missing out on this
I'm with Victor What exactly are we supposed to be celebrating again ? Bad decisions ? Taking the club to the brink of Division 4 ? Watching/listening to more and more people get disillusioned and staying away in their droves every other Saturday ?
Sorry if I'm out of step with Victor and the gang but I took this sentence as it was printed... ' April 5th will be an opportunity for supporters to look back over the club's recent history and remember some of the great days '. After all the recent debacles, it would be good to remember beating Liverpool up there by Tins goal, beating Arsenal with that wonderful Cheese goal on our return to league 1, beating Leeds in the Cup with that Gillies goal and the success of our league 1 promotion side. These are of course my own personal memories and it does not make me gullible or stupid to be proud of the team I support or some of it's history, I admit recent years and decisions have been farcicle, idiots in charge of the asylum, fans treated with some element of contempt but there comes a time when you can see efforts being rewarded and times changing, I think that's where our team is at. I will support their day, continue with my memories, enjoy watching my team because that is what I want to do, other supporters can suit their selves with the way they feel, I don't judge them, that's their right, I just wish to continue to support Bristol City FC, that makes me happy, good or bad.
Morning Wiz, and sorry. 'but there comes a time when you can see efforts being rewarded and times changing, I think that's where our team is at'. Now how many times in 50 years have I heard that ? ' April 5th will be an opportunity for supporters to look back over the club's recent history and remember some of the great days '. I do not want anyone from BCFC telling me to look back - It makes my guts ache get worse. Like many, I was at Arsenal,Coventry,Liverpool and even Mansfield. But the useless rats in charge are putting up one bl**dy smokescreen. I don't want any part. For those who do - good luck. I suspect the rats will laugh out their rear end. PS - for those the rats employ - have a look at the car park. They don't care a monkeys f**k.
