Growing up I had many hero’s but this man is my biggest in a city shirt. I also had the privilege of him and his wife sending my son birthday cards. He was asked by my brother to send an christening card but he went beyond that by sending him Birthday cards for about 4 years. As to why he stopped, we moved so I guess (hope) that they just didn’t get forwarded. Top man none of this corporate city cards just personal cards from him and his wife.
At the risk of making a few of you sound old, while most of my generation's favourite growing up was Scotty, mine had to be Tommy Doherty. Loved the way he played and he was our very own out-and-out central midfielder. Quite underrated from that era imo, but no doubt was part of the drinking culture which ultimately held us back in those years.
I am definitely older generation but 2 of my recent favourites/heroes Louis Carey and Tommy Doherty, I agree with your thinking on 'The Doc' great player and one of our own.
My hero was Shaun Taylor. Nothing to do with me living in Swindon - I just felt ‘safe’ with him at the back for us. Closely followed by Carey - for the same reason. Strange really, considering I played all my football in front of that position - as a Striker and later left midfielder I guess I relied on the defence to direct the game and they never disappointed. I thought ‘yes I would love to play in a team with you in it’.
All great players , lots of amazing memories . Which of the present team will we remember with equal fondness in future years ? Reid? , Pack maybe , Cory ? , Bryan ? . Deidhu? or maybe some of the young ones will turn into players of the future , COD? , Kelly?, Vyner maybe ? Some of the football we produced earlier in the season will stay in my memory for years to come.

Tony Ford, Jack Connor, Mike Gibson, Gordon Low, Alec Briggs, Jantzen Derrick, Gordon Parr, Johnny Quigley, Chris Crowe, Terry Bush & Roger 'Lou' Peters. I used to love this team, it was a Fred Ford team, pre Alan Dicks, who took over in October '67 and was the real 'Bristol City Spirit' to me, until the AD magic took over.
Thanks for the photos Wiz Many many happy memories and blasts from the past When life, and football, was a lot simpler
kicking off with CC is a real good starter, other than JG he was a typical livewire city player of the time... I can always remember one thing about him ... the corners viewed from open end three on the trot hit crossbar defender put out twice and third was headed out by a City player ........... JG' FIRST HAT TRICK!..... of course many many more memories .... when Alan Ball came to open end after thrashing city in a cup game and said "thankyou" everytime he was near the open and did a "trick or 2 he got a cheer" nowadays a player would be regarded as goading the crowd in an adverse way!
