Fulham away brings back memories of FA Cup 4th round 1981 and a 2 1 victory at the cottage a great day. Halesey definately scored cant remember the other scorer, but I remember an almighty bout of fotball fisticuffs in the park next to the ground before and after and a big charlton following at the game. Ipswich away came next ,the great Ipswich team of the time and a brave 3 0 defeat in round 5. Anyone else old enough to of been at the cottage that day
MT - vaguely remember the game, but also cannot remember our other scorer. I do though vividly remember the game in 2003 when we got trounced after Feeeeeeeeesh got red carded.
i think i went to this game -but left at half time due to bad dose of food poisoning if i rem had be picked up from charing cross wasnt attall well if recall i think i ate a dodgy burger from their cafe so dont do that this time around if its anything like the one i had years ago from that place!i rem fulham fans where pretty rough bunch back then had waited for us at local tube station they also caused a lot of trouble in the away end in prem if i recall at the valley which involved several stewards escorting them out not so nice fans guys and girls so watch it when go to the cottage.
im just warning everyone fulham fans are known for trouble to away fans all x chelsea lot just go in numbers all i say just have to look at the pitch invasion vs chelsea went to the 2-0 defeat when saha scored at qpr and had bottle of piss luzzed over from their section
if we get kept behind they be waiting for us to come out of the gates when leave away end trust me on previous experiences of fulham fans they might have changed but i doubt it
Afraid so Mike - it was Peter Shaw. Went to Ipswich as well, tremendous performance but they were just too strong for us.
Other scorer that day was ...Peter Shaw. ! I was there, also went to Ipswich - what a noise the fans made that day -- it was probably the loudest i've ever known a Charlton crowd.
One thing that the last post has shown me - is that there is a 30 second limit to posting items on Not606 ! - Better than 3 mins on 606 - i used to hate that !
Yep Ipswich was a brilliant day out think we took 7,000 up there ,Peter Shaw of course, and we went up that season its an omen I tells yer.
Drove to Portman Road with my next door neighbour, who was an Ipswich supporter - absolutely buzzing on the way back, even though we'd lost.
Yep, walking into the ground it was one of those spine-tingling moments, when we made a huge noise all game. My memories of that game was Terry Butcher marking Paul Walsh - am i right?
Just reading your comments on Fulham fans. I'm pretty sure you will get a very warm reception from Fulham fans. If you had bad experiences I can understand your concern but in my opinion I think you'll find us one of the most friendly crowds. Looking forward to it - you've been on a good run so it's certainly going to be a test.
Please disregard those comments from someone who is (how can I put this tactfully?) "different" and lives in a strange world of his own. Fulham fans are some of the most genuine and sporting in the country. It's a real football club with a real ground and real fans, unlike those instant creations resembling a cast and sets rejected for "the Matrix". I would even go so far as to say that you are the Charlton of West London (how's that for high praise?).
Normally I am a defender of JA. But those are ill informed and I'll considered words. I have always found Fulham a friendly and enjoyable away trip. "Charlton of West London" is spot on Eddie.
Apart from the obvious winner , my favourite ground in London. Friendly fans, lovely arena with a seamless mix of old and new architecture, splendid statue of Johnny Haynes as well. Nice walk through the park from the tube and beautiful views of the river. Love it. I could even get to like the Michael Jackson statue in say, twenty or thirty years time...
Thank u fulham fan taking time to reply my email last night.I have a lot of respect for fulham having come up from div three as then it once was so no worries on my part fulham I supose are my third club behind cafc and welling. When I went last was the match vs fulham at qpr I think their was a lit anger at time when fayed came on pitch which didnt help,i remember going in at half time saha I think just scored bfore half time,we sat down bit banter going on from us lot was sitting with, then a bottle piss came flying over from the home area, just missed me but it landed on person next to me who if I recall was far from happy.this is a true story by the way so im hoping fulham fans can welcome us this time around ..great club otherwise
Akkers you must be having a laugh. I remember Charlton nutters battering their Fulham counterparts back in 1981 in the park outside the ground. I also remember Charlton taking over the Cottage back in '86 when we won 3-0 on our way to promotion. Fulham never come in big numbers to The Valley, never have and never will.
