Think he was a victim of the salary cap personally - he's one of those on the edge between League 1 and Championship and once he didn't have a club sorted on the day the cap came in he was always going to have to take a paycut somewhere or go to any club that hadn't signed anybody so had a wage budget to fill. With Charlton being just taken over they essentially had money to spend both literally and within the cap. Ben Watson also a good signing for them.
I agree Ben Watsons a decent one. Maddison has talent, but previous managers have said his attitude is not good.
He'll be lucky to get 10mins game time on Sat. He hasnt even had a proper pre season, hes been training alone inbetween eating junk food and playing on his ps4. He put a post on Instagram last week at 430pm saying he'd just got up and he was going out to buy some breakfast stuff.
Thanks Teee's good to know, still could have done without him signing though, he is a bit of a thorn in the side. I quite like Boyer both as a player and a manager. But if we are to get anywhere we have to compete with the likes of Charlton, whoever plays for them. OaU
I'd heard loads of reports about his attitude problems and wondered if it was really that bad... Had never seen a picture of him before though. Now it all makes sense, ha. **** me... those tattoos, the eyebrow shave, that chain... the bloke may as well walk around wearing an "I'm a grade A ****" sign
Yes i agree, he comes across abit of a prick on his Instagram aswell. Im not losing any sleep or certainly not having a meldown that hes gone to Charlton. Hes a decent league 1 player, but thats about it. He showed during his time at Hull he wasnt cut out for the Championship otherwise he'd have had some of the lesser clubs in that league after him, considering he was available for free. Id rather give one of our younsters a chance than sign him.
Yeah that's about my view on it. He's not a bad player by any means, but I'm not particularly fussed we "missed out" on him (if we were even in for him? Heard rumours he was basically begging us to sign him). I can absolutely see the reported attitude issues being real, plus the fact he has been a free agent for this long says to me he's no major loss - there will have been a lot of clubs had a look and thought "no thanks".
Championship level ability, league two quality attitude. Averages out at league one level which I believe is where he's been all his career so far pretty much. I'd have been happy if we signed him, he's a good player, but with all the baggage I'm not bothered that we haven't.
could have swapped him for Mcgeady i bet, he was a free transfer stangely good player though, but Benji has signed a new contract and he will be better i reckon. we have to give the other lads a run out as well Elliott etc.
I like the idea of doing a swap deal with a free agent. Bet Maddison's missus would've been a bit miffed when she came home to find Geads in her front room though
