Melbourne Victory won Australian Soccer's Top Award today with a 3-0 victory over Sydney FC.

The Plate (commonly referred to as "The Toilet Seat" - see picture below)

was decided in front of a capacity crowd of 30,000 but over 20,000 missed out owing to the fact that the Australian Rules Hierarchy would not allow the Etihad Stadium (capacity 55,000) to be used as there was an AFL match scheduled - see article below:

Didn't Koren go there? I know Danny Allsopp was there a few years ago too.

Richard Garcia is out here too. He plays for Perth Glory.
We have also had Michael Bridges (now retired) with the Newcastle Jets and Tony Warner who played for Wellington I believe.
Danny Allsopp was a 'star larker' for Victory winning the "Golden Boot' one season and he has since retired and is studying to become a (wait for it) Policeman.
Going back we had Waggy playing for South Melbourne and Billy Wilkinson who' nickname was "The Sword" (from Wilkinsons 'sword edge' Razor Blades).
We also had Big Ben Burgess who had a couple of seasons over here way back.
The Australian A-League can be quite lucrative for players looking for a swan song as we have what are called "Marquee Players" who can be paid outside the salary cap. Robbie Fowler, Emile Heskey and the Italian International Alessandro Del Piero were a few who took advantage of this. They are the players who are capable of 'putting bums on seats' and are well worth the extra for their appeal.
