I must admit, i did spend a very entertaining hour on Owlstalk on sat evening telling them not to be too downheartened and that 2nd is still up for grabs - boy, did they bite ! - they're a ferocious lot up there - and not just on the pitch.

I think Megson is trying to make himself feel better. No one team is going to walk the division this year and nothing is certain at this stage in the season. 21(?) games to go and a loss to the blades will bring us right back to the chasing pack. A win still does not guarantee promotion but is obviously a big step in the right direction! <cool>

I'll settle for 60 points out the remaining games though if we lose to the blades...

Cant read into this too much - I feel its Megson trying on the mind games

If we do beat Sheffield United I cant see how we can be caught as once you take into consideration we can be 10 points clear of second alone, though on the other side we could only be a point clear, you just dont know whats gonna happen.

I reckon though we will cement our place top of the table with a tight win against the Blades and then the only really difficult games we'll have left are Huddersfield and Preston (A), and by the time we play them I do think it'll be all over

    Not too soon at all.

You're the class of the field.

Megson can say what he likes, I've seen too many end-of -season slumps to count any chickens.
If we do go up however I don't think we should have any worries about the Championship.

    Megson is playing mind games.

21 games left, still plenty to play for.

I can't remember the last time we finished a season well.

Last two times we played the blades at home, we didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory did we?

My only concern is something that doesn't bare much logic, but one that I can't get out of my head.

We've been top since September.. I can't remember many sides that have pretty much spent an entire season at the top.

As for megson- it's mind games. We enjoyed this weekend, but it's time to forget and move on now.

The experience of Norwich, Southampton, and to an extent Brighton and Leeds suggests teams of a certain size can carry momentum from L1 into the Championship. That Norwich team in the PL has players we played against 2 years ago in L1 plus signings like Pilkington, Steve Morison, Simeon Jackson, Bradley Johnson from around our level, the Southampton team currently leading the way in the Championship isn't drastically different from the one that went up last season.

If the Championship was easy then the piss poor Pardew/Parkinson side would have stayed up!

we were top in August as well I think briefly by a goal or so ahead of Sheff Utd so you may as well say we've been top all season along but then i'm sure Karl Robinson would disagree that it's been deserved

there's a lot of boxes this team is ticking such as winning 6-pointers both home and away, winning FA Cup 1st round matches on the ITV giant-killer slot, coming from behind to win games, I would like to think not slumping end of season will be another, I just don't think CP will allow it to happen especially as he's proved he's not afraid to sign a whole new squad as he would do again if the current crop showed a drop in attitude towards end of season
