Light relief after Tuesday (-just about feeling normal again) - read this on the Guardian site, some amusing comments. Scroll down see Bazzar12's story. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/...eting-footballers-bring-out-embarrassing-side Re the Tigers - anyone met our heroes and how were they?
I met Deano and he nearly smacked my mate, until Ashbee stepped in and my mate legged it. Which was funny as ****. Ash was a class act, talked to us for a while & seemed sound. Deano was bladdered and was too busy getting off with that lass he sitting next to at Huddersfield (if you saw him on the sky coverage) Haven't really met & chatted to anybody i'd class as a hero- got a picture with Manny from the Stone Roses at Manchester Airport, but i was pissed and he seemed to be and all and he just walked off after that.
I've met every City player from the last 5 years I think, ever since I discovered where the training ground was!
Met them all many times. Steve Bruce is definitely the nicest manager we have had, a truly affable guy. Like a jolly uncle. Nigel was much nicer, more 'warm' and pleasent to be with than his media persona suggests. He basically just hates the media. Kevin Kilbane is the nicest footballer I have ever met. Stuart Green was a knob. Jimmy Bullshit was an absolute ****, surprise surprise.....
Met Phil Brown and Ashbee at there icons event last year... Brownie was everything youd expect, charm personified...couldnt wait to jump in and pose for a photo.. Ash was polite and did his duty but seemed like he would rather have been other places, maybe hed heard i was the one who posted his Torquay goal online several hundred times and was a bit worried ..
For those that don't know where the training ground is, it is down Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham, a small one-way street. Right at the bottom, next to Yorkshire Water!
S'funny how people never say 'Manny from Primal Scream' yet he's probably been with them nearly as long as the Stone Roses (I haven't checked).
I met Jimmy Hill once, probably won't mean much that to anybody under 21- he was a nice fella was walking through Beverley
To be fair, he wasn't in the original lineup of Primal Scream. With that you could say Manny, the DJ and producer of manc band Kid British etc etc.
Charlie Harper. Dortmund. 1983. After a gig I'd just watched the UK Subs play. He was a top bloke, bought me a beer and let me and my mate kip on the floor in his hotel room cos the alternative was for us to sleep at the train station before heading home and he was amused 2 english 17 year olds were watching them in Germany. Who group, roadies as well were awesome. Total legend.
Around 1979 I met one of my dads heroes. I was 17 at the time and playing golf at Springhead Park and joined up with a couple of blokes to finish the round. I was chatting to one of them about his job being a policeman in London and didn't really register who he said his dad was until later ( God knows why ). His dad played 520 times for City and was a true City / one club legend. Andy Davidson. Apparently he still lives in the area.
When I was at Hull Grammar I used to ride my bike to Calvert Café on Calvert Ln every lunchtime. Hull City players used to eat there to, Chris Chilton Roger DeVries, Blampey I think maybe even Jeff Barmby and a few others. Anyway I used to just stare at them in awe eating my egg, beans, and chips. One day Chillo waved me over I was red as a beetroot and he said "why don't you eat with us" I was gobsmacked but every Tuesday and Thursday after that I peddled down there and ate with them as I was a huge fan and my dad used to give me questions to ask them ha ha ha. Roger Devries and Chris were really nice to me and often paid for my grub oh what great memories
I never said he was with Primal Scream originally but he was in their band for 16 years. It just never gets mentioned was my point.
We all had a game of football with the UK subs on the sea front at Hornsea, as they had stopped off on their way up to play a gig at Brid or Scarborough. Top lads all the band and roadies. Must've been 1979 ish as I remember running home to get my copy of 'Stanglehold' so they could sign it for me.
