It happens to Everton a lot too and it happened to Newcastle once or twice - a few years ago Tiote, Coloccini, Cabaye and Krul were all set to leave according to the papers.

It'll be happening to us this summer too with Sandro, Vertonghen, Lloris and Paulinho all linked with moves away. There have been plenty of others players linked too but with most of them I doubt Spurs fans would care if they left. Just bracing myself for Eriksen to be added to the list and reporting of interest to be changed to reporting bids.
 
I remember a similar feeling during a transfer window around 2003 when we were playing well. Fabrice Fernandes was going to Liverpool (them again <grr> ), The Svenssons were both off as was Beattie and Bridge.

The only one that left was Bridge in the cash and Le Saux deal. Which at the time didn't seem to bad. Would sort of be like A Cole coming here plus cash with Shaw going the other way.

When we're doing well are players are going to get linked elsewhere but its not always as bad as it may seem.
 
The problem now is not that we are losing players (which has always happened), but that we may lose our unique style if Mauricio goes. We will still produce youngsters because we did this before Nicola came and will carry on doing it with the enlarged Academy.

Mauricio is certainly the key but our style is not as unique in Europe as it has proved in the premier league.

The more I have listened to Les Reed in recent weeks the more confident I am that he has been behind all of our football decisions. I believe Cortese had the drive and charisma to bring people to the club, but I doubt that he would have originally identified Pochettino.

Would be disappointed if he went to Spurs but I think there are managers out there who could carry on the same style of play, they're just unlikely to be british. It could mean we keep David though
 
Someone should tell MP the story of Glenn Hoddles move from Saints to Spurs as that ended in tears.
All Spurs managers have ended up on their asses all to quickly and if MP thinks he is any different, I think he is deluded as expectations are completely unrealistic

Exactly. The bigger clubs cast envious eyes but aren't always willing to pay the price. The media enjoy nothing more than playing the bigger club's tune though and no doubt they get some juicy info for leaving the players in no doubt of who wants them... the clubs are always keen to avoid the charge of tapping up. As plenty of chairman have showed in the past, it is still possible to resist the player and big club, not that they get much praise for it.

Personally I'd rather you were able to keep your players and manager, it's a breath of fresh air to have a side like yours in the league and it would be a shame to see it torn down so quickly. From a purely Tottenham perspective though, I would like Pochettino in charge of our lot.

It's difficult to find one that can do the job in the Premier League though. I think AVB showed that well. At Porto he had an all conquering, attacking side and at Zenit he got them playing attacking, attractive football immediately, yet in the Premier League he was considered a dull, defensive manager because his tactics required the opposition to actually try and win the ball off you before their own defensive third. It's far easier to get results in this league with tall, athletic players charging around the pitch 90 minutes than it is to have players move the ball around artfully trying to pick a team apart.

It's not as much about the expectations as the media like to portray. So long as Pochettino doesn't publicly slag off all the players at the club, let his team's form plunge whilst he makes plans for taking England to the Euros(old 'Arry even admits this) or stick rigidly to a system that isn't working then he should be okay.

You're in luck then. Pochettino doesn't do that. He sticks rigidly to a system that is working...............even on the occasions when it isn't :)

And it's a system built around good football, making him a very rare thing in the Premier League.
