Been away for a bit and just read JWM post about contracts, and I think its raised a couple of interesting issues.

With 15 months left on his contract I don't think it would be unusual for contract talks to begin now.

However, I should imagine that any contract talks will be more about the size of the transfer kitty rather than MM`s salary.
Now this is where things get interesting, IMO we are not good enough to warrant a place in this years play offs, but we should be next season

So, do ME promise a sizable kitty for the next seasons push, knowing that if there is no money available MM would in all probability run his contract down and leave
which then would result in ME having to find another manager with a reasonable transfer kitty as bait.

If a sizable amount is released and we get promoted at the end of next year (please god) do MM go for short term players which are good enough to get us up,
but will need more players to keep us up, which would mean more money in the kitty

You can appreciate ME`s dilemma here either way he has to release funds to either MM or his successor and do so again if we get promoted

How would you handle this? give MM a bucket load for next season? stick with what we got and hope MM pull off a miracle in which case he would stay?
or say no to any transfer kitty, let MM go, get some nonentity of a manager with the remit of staying in the championship with definitely no chance of promotion
because this would save ME a bucket load and would be a safer option.

Guess we will find all the answers within the next six months.
