Match day and for the first time ever I've got 6 of my family coming with me to the gate, I have a problem, who do I sit by, my S/T has to go to 1 of them, do I sit by my son, my daughter, my wife, grandsons, this is my problem. Share the first half with 2 and change, my son stays by me , eldest grandson has my S/T.. Oh god I'm in such a state, help me out fellow REDS, I'm in the Williams and suffering...
Several years ago my wife forced me to take her to knitting exhibition at the NEC so I insisted she came with me to Football. After half time she asked "why are they kicking a different way?". I never invited her again
I took my wife to Brentford away a few years ago. Big Jamie McCoombe put us one up (goal scored at the other end) - in the second half they got a penalty and there was a bit of a hold-up before they took it and scored - the match finished 1-1. Later in a London pub I was in philosophical mood and said "well it shows how far we have come if we are disappointed with a draw at Brentford" - she looked at me oddly and said "but you lost 2-1". We worked out that she thought the penalty when it was given was a goal - then the penalty being scored was another. She does wear glasses for driving now!!
Simples really you sit in the opposite stand and say " I want to get a pic of you all cheering when we score".....
I am sure my wife is hoping to cash in on some insurance - she jumped up cheering loudly in the middle of a quiet Tom Finney home stand at Deepdale when city scored and I had about 4000 puzzled Preston fans staring at me. This season, down the road at the county ground in the Arkells stand with the swindon fans she kept shouting at the referee each time he gave a decision against City - or ignored a Swindon foul. That was a very hostile environment. She knows her football I suppose, but doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut. Thinking about it - that applies outside football too .........
My wife kept getting invited to hospitality in the Cardiff stadium when ever they played City. But she always delined as she said there is no way she would keep her mouth shut. Plus being a staunch English girl. she would not be able to stop herself singing anti Welsh songs.
Only took Mrs R once to City and that was back in the 70's. We played Luton and were losing 2-0 h/t so I sent her back to the car and wait for me at f/t. We won 3-2 and she's been banned her ever since.
I was there....they had Malcolm McDonald and Viv Busby up front and had been promoted from the 3rd division the previous year
I was there as well. I was maybe 9 or 10. I remember a player called Alan West for some reason. Don't know why some names stick in your head.
I took my girlfriend to a City / Rovers derby match many, many years ago. It was her first game. About 20 minutes into the game she asked me "are we supporting the reds or the blues". I honestly didn't know what to say..............disbelief had the better of me.
We're of the same age then Glengregory. I was born in 1960 but I don't remember Alan West I'm afraid. Luton got promoted before we did (to the old 1st Division) along with Carlisle who had the likes of Ray Train and John Gorman while Luton had Lil Fuccilo and co. From memory Carlisle won 2-0 at Chelsea on the opening day in the big time and Luton lost at home to Liverpool 1-2. Both teams went back down at the end of the season as far as I recall or is that when David Pleat ran on the pitch at Maine Road as Luton survived ?
No disrespect but thank god I have not got to drag that lot to football every week, had to pay £5 to park, give up my S/T seat, walk bloody miles to the ground, sit right up the end on my own, couldn't concentrate on the football as the wife was sat next to me and kept chatting, didn't have a beer or clarkies and I was ****ing freezin'.. Still City won and I'm off up the pub in the minute, see ya later and Up the City..
Thanks mate, I love being with my family and we had a great day, the bosom is a pleasure I have long appreciated..
