Stewart Downing may not have any choice than to stay with Villa for at least another year as Alex McLeich is unlikely to let him go.In particular he is not willing to sell to Liverpool. New Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has told Stewart Downing he does not want to sell him to Liverpool and expects him to remain professional if his dream move fails to materialise. Villa have rejected bids of £12million and £15m from the Reds for Downing, who is also wanted by Arsenal, and McLeish wants the England international to remain as part of his plans for the forthcoming season. Oh well, I think we should move on to someone else, we need to draw a line. I'm suprised we didn't draw it with Adam
What happens if he puts a request in - does that mean we can still get him? If not, I suppose we'll just have to go with Mata instead. It's a cruel world.
Transfer request doesn't really guarantee a transfer. It's just a sign that the player wants to (publically) leave the club and Downing will not receive any compensation from the club for releasing him earlier than the end of his contract.
i think villa re doomed to make the same mistake time and again. they drew out the barry thing and totally disrupted the dressing room. everton did this with lescott and ended up in the bottom half of the table as they lost cohesion too. villa need to either draw the line or sell and buy the replacement. as for us? I think we should string them along until we make an actual pruchase and disrupt them as much as we can.... lol.
Villa will end up selling him for less than what we're currently offering - just like with the Barry fiasco. Bunch of ****ing muppets
If we spend any more money in the midfield I would rather we buy someone like Mata who is younger, more consistent and has a better delivery than Downing, although does not fit the "home grown" requirement.
Kenny Dalglish is not stupid, if Lucas is bad he will never give him a new contract.Trying to buy Downing he knows what he is doing.
