The 4231 formation seems set in stone, so who should be the "1"? When Mclean went upfront today, he did far more than Fryatt and looked really promising. Shame he put that chance over the bar, and that other one was disallowed. But in general, he held up the ball well and created some good chances. For me, he has to start up front next week.
I like this 4-4-1-1 formation with a player in the hole. I would like to see how Josh King does up front, perhaps we will definitely see him in that role against Crawley.
i thought fryatt was just starting to get into the game before he was taken off, id still pick him from the 2, if you have 1 forward on the pitch he has to be able to hit the target from 8 yards,.hopefully king may come in and be able to do the job.
mclean over fryatt ur kidding mclean cannot control ball stop it shoot on target, fryatt far better player never loses ball if you watch,hw many chances does mclean need sooner brighton take the better £30 should be enough then we can start playing josh king hell show u how to score
Fryatt is way better, he may take too many touches, but his finishing is in different class to Mclean's.
Mclean can't beat a defender unless the defender trips over himself he can't hit the target either that one he knocked over should have been buried in the back of the net.
Whilst Mclean has looked better in the centre the last two matches, it has to be noted that the change coincided with Brady coming on and the supply lines being enhanced dramatically. I thought Fryatt played too deep today and didn't ask half the questions of the Posh defense that he should have done. With the same supply as Mclean he may have played differently and it may have been a different story. Of course, personally, based on recent performances, I'd like Mclean to start in the centre and see how he gets on. Brady seems to have come back down to earth since his reserve sending off and has started giving some decent end product. He's a game changer and while I'm not certain he's available or in our price limit, I think we aught to do everything we can to try and buy him, whereas a few weeks ago, I'd probably not have been overly gutted to see him return to Man Utd. I thought when Brady played more centrally against Ipswich in the first half we looked a different level, and personally, whilst Evans was excellent again today, I'd replace him for Brady. Or Koren, but that would be a bit daft. Oh, and first post. Hi Guys.
i'd love to see mclean played up top in the centre as he's wasted as a winger. They say you're only as good as your last game which makes me feel like he should be there ahead of fryatt at this moment in time
good 1st post that in my humble opinion, dont quite agree with dropping evans but i agree about brady looking sharp last 2 games. he put in a peach of a cross which was begging to be knocked in, unfortunatley mclean was stood looking at it as per usual, where a true forward would have gambled and been on it, its a debate which will rumble on, but if we are going to have a runner up front we might as well sign linford christie...we need a striker up front.
To be fair, neither Mclean nor Fryatt do what i want of my striker enough, neither of themn really play on the last man enough and chance their arm enough. You want your striker getting into that six yard box, we had three crosses into that area today that went unchallenged and tbh thats not good enough. We do need a striker no matter what anyone says about either, we need a regularly scorer. Lets hope King can produce something, i just feel harsh on putting all our hopes on a kid who has never scored at the Championship level.
Just watched all the goals on Sky. Ball pulled back for Rodrigues smashes it first time hard and low- goal. Ball pulled back for Mclean smashes it first time high wide and handsome. We look likely for a play off spot but get two good strikers in and we can do automatic. Its that simple.
Mclean did exactly that against Ipswich in the first half before Brady moved wider second half. He played off the defenders shoulder and left them for dead at least 3 times from memory. It was refreshing to see. He actually looked for the first time like a 20 goal striker. Second half, he didn't look as good though so whether he can consistently play like that I'm not sure. Today, he was totally wasted hugging the sidelines, until the substitutions, and let's be honest, we looked a different and far improved team after those subs and formation change. So, I've seen a different side of Mclean which suggests to me he could be a real striker, rather than a workhorse. Fryatt, who is without doubt an exceptional striker, with ball control and skill in abundance, hasn't excited me as much as Mclean did in the Ipswich match. Maybe, as you mentioned, neither are the answer and we are two decent strikers short of a promotion team, but I'd like to think if we play to their strengths and provide better balls they are good enough.
I'd agree that McLean should start for the reasons the OP has said. I'm a big fan of 4-4-2 with two proper strikers, two out and out wingers and two fullbacks who can get forward and support. Saying that though Koren is probably best employed in our current 4-2-3-1 system, but the 1 up front has to be more effective than Fryatt. He scores a couple of goals now and then and we all love him, but then he goes quiet for the next 6 or 7 weeks, I'd give McLean a go up there and consider Simpson if that doesn't work, Fryatt for most of this season has been playing on reputation alone. But what's the point in hitting the target if you just roll it to the 'keeper? It's no better than hitting row z. Neither of them are ideal but it does my head in how Fryatt is so immune to criticism when his finishing is arguably worse than McLean's. Bleugh. It's very easy to say that without any justification. Can anyone remind of a goal Fryatt has scored for us that has been a 'different class' finish? I can't think of one he's even managed to hit cleanly, he scuffs everything. People use ***an as a bad example of strikers quite often, but the more I see of Fryatt the more he reminds me of ***an: Runs a lot, gets out of what seem like impossible positions and does OK with back to goal, but actually getting in the box and shooting? Nah. McLean gets an incredibly raw deal with City fans who look only at the goals scored stat.
