"Can the ground please swallow me up!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!" Hopefullly he doesn't let it get to him, it's not like he's done it twice.
I wouldn't blame him.. on a hattrick, could have gone alone.. unselfishly plays it to his team mate 4 yards from goal.. and he bloody misses.
Fryatt played the right ball, it was unselfish and it was a quality ball, Mclean just looks out of his depth at this level. On that note, how good was Simpson today? That ã50k is looking like a bargain.
simpson carried on nicely from where he left off on tuesday, linked up really well with fryatt i thought too, seem to have a good understanding, for such little time on the pitch..
I assume it was ã50k plus clauses, any idea how much they're worth? Blocking Koren's shot on the line will stick in most people's heads but I've been backing him all season (or, at least, trying) He and Fryatt could be deadly next season (provided we stay in this division)
I said at the time and I definitely think now, that Jay Simpson was hard done to when Fryatt and McLean came in. He started at a new club playing on his own up front and for a time it was hard for the lad. The he finally finds some form and he gets dropped for the newbie. Bad decision in my view. If he had kept his place alongside Fryatt we might be well in the play-offs by now.
As far as I know, he was ã50k, with a potential ã250k in add-on's for appearances, goals etc. I think he's staked his claim now, I reckon Fryatt and Simpson are now our first choice strikers.
Well worth ã300k when it eventually reaches that, considering we paid ã1.3m (?) for McLean. Always said it was desperation more than anything for McLean, we failed to land Mackail-Smith or Austin so went for him. He's runs like mad, bless him, and wins headers very well for his height, has good strength, but he's just not good enough, unfortunately. I hope Jay + Matt are first choice, Fryatt seems to go hot and cold, seems like all he needed was a penalty to boost his confidence. Looked much better today after being a bit quiet recently. Didn't really fall for Simpson today but still a good shift, let's hope he can bag a goal against Middlesbrough and have a short run of form until the end of the season.
Mclean needs to calm down a bit that's all, there's a good player in him, Simpson showed nothing at first too, you have to give players time to adapt. I would leave Mclean out as his confidence is low, just hope he doesn't get too much criticism from people, lets see how he goes this time next year, or if he isn't good enough then Pearson will ship him out.
from half time simpson looked knackered....having said that he cant be match fit and he played very well....cant believe he tried to pass it past the keeper from 25 yards when through 1 on 1
My theory was that McLean was trying to pass it back to Matty so he could bung it in for the match ball. As someone near to me remarked....."He couldn't trap a bag of cement" ....Says it all really. Still we won but those missed chances could come back to haunt us...big style.
Don't all start knocking McClean he missed, plenty of footballers will have missed similar chances. He's a player I like, works hard brings a different dimension to the team. Simpson was very good today, thought the team looked more dynamic from the start when Garcia started on the right, Devitt did a great job when he came on. A good day at the office.
Agreed, let the lad get over it, we won-end of. If we'd been nil nil and it was the title decider, yes I'd get revved but today, no it didn't matter ( thankfully ) Only observation; did anyone see Nigel going ballistic with Aaron, you could see he just wanted him to forget and get stuck in again...
I have to say i like the fellow as you know he is always trying, yes he has not looked the part for us yet but i trust NP and the coaching staff to get the best out of him. How many of us would have said in early November that Simpson has being brilliant recently and that he should start week in week out? I definately would not have said that but i would now. Time is certainly needed!
Simpson looks born again, a completely different player to the one we had at the start of the season. Mclean just doesn't look like he's going to cut it, I don't care about the miss, these things happen, but he just doesn't look like he's got enough quality on the ball. I admire his work rate and you can see the benefit in bringing a player like him on for the last ten minutes to give teams something to worry about, he can be a handful, but I don't think he's starting XI material.
We would have all said that after 0 goals in his first 15 or so games. Looked unfit in the early part of the season, but was really impressed with his contribution at Swansea and glad he managed to continue that level of performance today. But let's be fair, their defence was nothing more than abysmal. I've always said ã1.3m was well over-priced for a 28 year old striker who had only scored 8 goals in the Championship before he arrived. However, his work rate has been consistently fantastic while he's been here. The miss today was terrible, but I hope he recovers from that and starts to score goals for us. Simpson looks the better option at the minute though
Saw McLean on the train going home last night. When I spoke to him he said "dont mention it"! Was very pleased to be at City and said how professional the club is run.
Very pleased with Simpson's performance yesterday. It looks like he's been working on his touch in training as it's alot better than it was. I'm glad we've got Fryatt as they seem to work well together and before he was up top on his own and isolated. Less said about McLean's miss the better. I've just seen it on the highlights and it's awful. The lad must be devastated, he needs a goal desperately. I agree with OLM and the others who says he's not championship standard.
