Nothing like a bit of mischief from the Newcastle Chronicle.

    This.

    They list a few others:

but it's simply a more sensible way of doing business in League One. The players aren't worth millions of pounds so it's not worth tying them to long contracts (many of them were free initially) and the bargaining strength is often with the clubs (unlike in the Premiership). It also allows more flexibility, you want to be able to shed players if you get promoted or if better ones become available.

There is no story here really, yes there's a risk of losing players you want to keep but the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Love this line: "My agent has had a conversation with the owners and the finance guys and they said they wanted to do something and they wanted to know what we wanted, but they haven't made any offers"

So we've asked the agent what he wants, but haven't made an offer!!

"I'm coming to look at your car, What do you want for it?"

......Deadly silence followed by "So why haven't you made an offer"

Chronicle being their usual bunch of arseholes!
