Liverpool Football Club is pleased to announce that Academy defender Ryan McLaughlin has today signed a new contract with the club.

The Northern Irish full-back, who joined the Reds during the summer of 2011, put pen to paper on his new deal on Friday morning to further extend his Anfield stay.

McLaughlin has yet to make a senior appearance for the club, but was included in manager Brendan Rodgers' squad for the summer tour of North America in 2012 and featured in the friendly against Roma.

The 18-year-old has since established himself as a regular in Alex Inglethorpe's U21 side and is on the fringes of the Northern Ireland national team, having played at every youth level for his country.

Great news - I tip him to be the next youngster to push for a place in the first team squad <ok>

Always looks a good player when I've watched him, loads of energy and can defend and attack.

He's more naturally suited to RB under BR's system than Kelly, Wisdom and Flannagan.

He has the speed both with and without the ball, excellent dribbling ability and has great output (crossing and passing).

I agree Flanno just doesn't look good enough and Wisdom and Kelly are center backs so he should get a chance if injury hits Johnson.

great. he can now focus on developing as an lfc player....

flanno was never good enough. he shocked me when kenny selected him of all players. i never understood bar he was a throw back.

I think Flanno had a decent start but just tailed off completely. Perhaps he was part of the batch before Rafa came and his team came - along with Morgan etc.

If you look at the youngsters now - Ibe, Sterling, Teixiera, Yesil, Wisdom, McLaughlin - these players are technical and tactical.

yeah he did a decent job alirght but i thought the same of darby, decent start one mistake and rafa hauled him out of it.

flanagan was always a tough tackler but nothing really special.

the kids we have have a chance to be prem players, flanno is with no disrespect a championship player

Hopefully we might get a sight of him in lesser (CoC) matches. Anyone know if he joined the Indonesia tour squad?

Yes a very exciting prospect. Agree with all previous comments about Flannagan ,started off well but really went backwards. Don't see him being a prem player, Robinson either although he does have a better chance.
McLaughlin though,I would think may well get some game time this year.

Agree with all of the above. Ibe and Sterling are probably our rawest talents, but Wisdom and McLaughlin for me have the most about them to break in to the first team, I'm very surprised that Wisdom hasn't been played CB yet, especially when Skrtel was out of form. I read an interview that Andre did and he said he'd welcome a loan move, if we could get a PL side to take him in, I reckon it'll be the making of him and save us millions down the line.

McLaughlin needs easing in to the first team, for me he could do a job as he is now but full-backs seem more prone to injury's than others. He needs the experience of playing, it should be a big season for him, but he'll be playing in a team as not as strong as it could be with other youngsters being loaned out. I don't know how I feel about loaning him.

Agree with you about Robinson too, he looked half decent in the Europa but was rattled against Oldham (so was most of the team to be fair), he hasn't kicked on as many would of expected him too, he isn't great coming forward, doesn't really have enough about his game to beat a game and looks shaky when he gets left one-on-one with a winger. If he doesn't stake a claim this season I see him having to move on elsewhere.

Great news, definitely one of promising one's we got coming through the academy.

He should have been picked for the Asian tour though, I was surprised to not see him in there.
